Whats the best QD for maintaining Collinite 476S ?

Hi all,

As some of you know I'm trying 476S on top of Wolfgang Deep Gloss. I do have a new bottle of Pinnacle Crystal Mist carnauba QD. Do you think thats ok or is there something much better?

Thanks

I have had great success with Meguiars Ultimate Quik Detailer and Ultimate Quik Wax over any of the Collinites. If you are looking to purchase by the gallon, you can get Meguiars M135 for the QD, and D156 for the wax. I usually alternate weekly between the UQD and UQW after washing. This pair had beading and sheeting to match the Collinites and doesn't effect the "bright look" Collinite waxes offer.

The Pinnacle would *probably* be OK, but ya just never know...somebody here decided to top their (dried/cured/OK) 476S with Souveran and it messed it all up (presumably via solvent-action) and nobody expected that to cause any problems. Just gotta try a given combo and see how it turns out.

I had a case where my FK425 did *NOT* play nice with 476S, so I now avoid using that.

I'm *VERY* happy with how Meguiar's UQW works on 476S, that's what I'm now using as my Drying Aid on the '93 Audi.

Hi guys,
I'm surprised to hear that such an "over the counter" Wal-mart product such as UQD & UQW are admired by guys like you....Must be decent stuff

It's *VERY* good stuff indeed! I'm no product-snob, if something works great then it's OK in my book :D And I think it's great that something like that is so commonly available (heh heh, I got mine as a stocking stuffer last Christmas- it was easy for an in-law to pick up at Wally World, worked out great for everybody).

I'll try some....
Another topic....So I just put 476S on one front fender on top of WDGS that has been curing for 3 days now. The 476S just like the Pinnacle Souveran is wiping off like dried glue. VERY difficult to remove with LOTS of drag. I applied the was super thin of course and it "hazed" over per Collinite's instruction. It appears to me that Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant does NOT like being topped....Any thoughts guys? Thanks

cp981= Well, maybe it *doesn't* like being topped with that particular product.

My 476S doesn't wipe off *quite* as easily as Souveran, but both come off with no real effort. And I even let Souveran set up/dry instead of buffing it off immediately the way most people do.

Heh heh, by the time you get this all squared away to your liking you might be over the idea of topping/combining LSPs ;)

I don't have 476s on the paint but my goto detail juice is ONR about 4 capfuls in a quart spray bottle of water (about the same as for using it as a clay lube). Since I use it for no rinse washes, it's always on hand.

This has GOT to be an adverse reaction to the Wolfgang sealant. This is now two of the most popular carnauba products I've tried wiping off of fully cured sealant and this is ABSOLUTELY near impossible. Never had an issue before, of course I have never topped a sealant before and by the looks of it NEVER again

Why are you topping it? If you like the look of 476S or Souveran, use them instead. Neither is hard to apply and remove so why go through all the extra work?

Hi Scott,
No you might be misunderstanding what I've done so far.....I prepped the car up to the point of applying Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant. I then waited a few days for it to cure properly. I then applied Souveran to the roof of the Porsche in a WoWo application and the wipe off was like spreading glue. I then ordered some 476S that I just received today and it is wiping off even more difficult to near impossible. The reason I wanted to top the Wolfgang sealant was to add more protection...

cp981- A few thoughts:

-Some sealants aren't really any more protective than a wax like 476S anyhow
-As you've found, even using a sealant + Beauty Wax (e.g., Souveran) combo can open a can of worms
-If using Souveran, might better stick to combos that're known to work (I use it over AutoGlym's Super Resin Polish these days)
-I sure don't blame you for wanting to get some use out of that jar of Souveran, guess I oughta feel that way about the WG sealant too, since you did spend your money on it

Guess that blows some of the theory I always subscribed to that it was ok to top within the same family. I wouldn't think the Pinnacle and WG would be at odds, as PBMG sells them both as their in house brands. But then of course, that doesn't mean they use the same manufacturer for both lines...

Hi Acc,
So as you might remember I first tried the Souveran on the roof of the car on top of the Wolfgang sealant and it was like wiping off glue. Well just a few minutes ago I put a thin layer of 476S on a small area of the roof basically topping the Souveran and the 476S wiped off nicely after it hazed, compared to trying to wipe the 476S off of the fender which I still can't get completely off. So as I am seeing it first hand....Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant does NOT AT ALL like to be topped with carnauba.

I had to moisten a MF with the Pinnacle Crystal Mist carnauba QD to get the 476S off the fender. It's off now but I doubt the 476 is protecting like it would normally....In the end I may just end up keeping Wolfgang Deep Gloss on the car by itself as the only protection.

cp981- Man, the whole thing sounds like a huge PIA...I'd just stick with the Deep Gloss if you like it. I'd redo the areas you've been trying to top though.

Fusion works ok over WGDGPS. Auto geek sells kits with WGDGPS and Souveran to be used together.

I'm not misunderstanding at all, I know what you have done. What I am saying is you're making this harder than it needs to be. You really aren't getting more protection, products don't film build upon each other. Cured or not, when you put something on top of another LSP, the solvents in them that make it easier to spread are removing some of what it already on the paint. Just figure out which LSP you like the best and use as often as needed. You're life will be a lot easier. Save the extra steps for polishing, that's where the real magic happens.
