Zymol HD Cleanse (Paint Sealer?)

Hi,

I am about to make the plung and buy some zymol concourse or the same from the swissvax line (BOS).

I was wondering since suggested use is using HD Cleanse before applying the zymol wax, is HD Cleanse a paint sealer??

Same goes for that cleaner fluid from Swissvax.

If not, what does it exactly do and should i still use a paint sealer before applying the wax/cleanse?

I have a silver Mercedes SUV, with front just re-sprayed (new AMG hood). Paint the shop used was PPG.

Cleanse is a paint cleaner. And it's a bit tricky to work with. Of the two (Zymol or Swisswax) IMHO, Swisswax is easier to work with.

Zymol's HD-Cleanse is their version of Meguiars #7 Show Car Glaze. They smell the same, look the same, have the same consistency, and apply/remove exactly like each other( DIFFICULT ). Zymol simply copied the most successful glaze known on many show car circuts.

That being said, HD-Cleanse is a general paint cleaner, but is mainly a glaze/filler type of product.

I tend to disagree that it's mainly a glaze filler. HD Cleanse flashes very quickly, this helps it remove any grease with ease from the paint. It is however not a extremely easy product to use, but I use it every time I apply.

Zymol HD Cleanse is virtually identical to Meg's 7 or 3M hand glaze. I have heard that all three are made at the same place...

They are not the same in use though.

#7 has no cleaning action, HD Cleanse has good cleaners.

HD Cleanse also dries to a haze and #7 forms a sort skin (by hand application anyway!).

Its not so much a paintwork cleaner as paintwork cleanser, similar to say Pinnicle Paintwork Cleanser, it cleans the paintwork and applys some oils too.

If you are using HD Cleanse or SV Cleaner Fluid before a sealant, it will need to be an oil compatible sealant.

You would use these products where you need to strip an old product, and want to apply a fresh layer of chosen wax. IE: used as a paintwork prep product.

You may wish to apply these products post polishing, you may notice they add some wetness or darken paintwork etc. IE: Used as a looks orientated product.

Dident see that part! In this instance you can applying Meguiars #7, check with the spray shop to see what they recommend for there paints before you protect the paintwork with a wax or sealant!

I wonder if the HD Cleanse has changed over the years

I've never used HD Cleanse, but I have used a whole lot of #7 and Pinnacle PCL, and theyr'e simply very different products. Everything I've heard from HD Cleanse users (and from Irene B. at TOL) tells me that HD Cleanse and Pinnacle PCL are quite similar.

I remember reading that HD Cleanse is the same as #7. But I also remember discussing the (very mild) abrasives in HD Cleanse with Irene at TOL (we were comparing them with those in Pinnacle PCL). No such abrasives in #7.

FWIW, the version of PCL Irene and I compared to HD Cleanse was susequently altered to something less potent. Again, I wonder how the various formulations factor in (AFAIK #7 is still basically unchanged from the old ~1930s formula).

Meg's #7 contains diatomaceous earth (aka celite), which is an abrasive. I also remember reading somewhere that both #7 and HD use kaolin (either as a filler or maybe a mild abrasive, I'm not sure).

I should also mention that my experience with #7 (and HD) is that its behavior is heavily dependant on what waxes/sealants are on the paint surface. Some things make it gum up terribly, which is probably the thing people observe when they say its so hard to use.

I remeber one bit of advice "MAXI" gave me on here. Spray some water on your app when apply HD Cleanse and it doesnt set hard and become tough to remove.

Personally i always use the versatile Mothers Showtime QD, but you get same results!

The D.E. in #7 is used as a filler, not an abrasive. There is no kaolin in #7 though it is also used as a filler.

Both #7 and #81 are made of the same 4 substances just different concentrations.

I think HD cleanse tries to be a cleaner and glaze in one. It does neither very well at all. I hated the stuff.

Exactly like Pinnacle PCL, which, FWIW, I think is an OK product that does both things pretty well (at least the older, more potent version did).

All the Meguiar's Pure Polishes are formulated to be functionally nonabrasive on auto paint, and IME they truly are (I used them on soft ss black lacquer almost weekly in the '70s and early '80s).

I'd go for the Lusso Revitalising Creme personally - good cleaner but makes a noticeable improvement to the finish. We used it next to SV CF and a few other products and topped it with SV Divine at a recent meet, and everyone agreed the Lusso made a bigger improvement to the finish than any of the other cleaners or the wax. The panels prepared with Lusso were identified by everyone looking at them vs those prepared with different products :)

That's another product we don't hear about much on our side of the Pond.

How do you know this? Diatomaceous earth is commonly used as an abrasive.
