Zymol HD Cleanse (Paint Sealer?)

I have and use both HD-Cleanse and Megs 7. They aren't even *close* to being the same product. HD-cleanse has a very high solids content to it, and dries *very* fast to a super hard (and hard to remove) residue. Number 7 is very oily, and doesn't dry if used correctly. 7 leaves a very oily finish behind, HD-Cleanse doesn't.

HD-Cleanses is a very effective cleaner. Number 7, not.

Number 7 leaves the vehicle looking oily. HD-Cleanse doesn't.

These products are soooooooo far away from being the same there are zero similarities between them, other than they are both used on cars.

Strange that some people have had such different experiences with it. More than 15 years ago, I remember doing side by side tests of the two products and could find no distinguishable difference. By comments here and elsewhere, I'm not alone. I have to wonder if HD Cleanse has changed since then.

I use HD Cleanse and yes, it is hard to remove so work in small sections..

I like it... especially the smell... like chocolate...

Back in the day, 70's (as far back as I remember) and on. There was a product named "Dupont Number 7" Great product, a cleaner.. HD Cleanse IMO is very similiar yet thicker..

My Dad used to use the Dupont Number 7 on his Lincoln Conti Mark IV and boy did it shine like a mirror. yes he waxed after the 7....

How do you know this? Diatomaceous earth is commonly used as an abrasive.

#7 like the other Meguiar's pure polishes are non-abrasive and contain no cleaning properties. They are used only to add gloss and depth to paint, not to remove defects. You can find more info in these threads:

#7 Showcar Glaze information, Please... - Car Care Forums: Meguiar's Online

While DE is used as a very mild abrasive, it has many other uses as well. It is used in filtratrion, as an insecticide, as a thermal barrier, and in some industries as a "fulling" material. That last one is more inline to how it is used in these polishes.

Zymol HD Cleanse is a good product. Good not excellant. It is no where close to what #7 is except for the color and smell. If you use #7 to prep a car for a wax you are not going to get any cleaning effect.

Yeah, there was a whole line of Dupont Number 7 products. I still have a can of their compound around here somewhere. Their stuff worked better on ss than on b/c.

Well, you'll get a *little* cleaning effect just from the solvent action. I used to use Meg's #7 as a "nonabrasive cleaner" back in the day and it really did clean the paint a bit, actually worked quite well on porous single stage. No, no...not the best way to do these days, guess this is just a "yeah, but..." sort of post.

I remeber one bit of advice "MAXI" gave me on here. Spray some water on your app when apply HD Cleanse and it doesnt set hard and become tough to remove.

Personally i always use the versatile Mothers Showtime QD, but you get same results!

Geoff

:) Hi steelwind101 really Mother showtime qd very nice product !!

the proplem with zymol hd-cleanes.... If it is stored for a long time ...on the shelf ...and return to use the

Product can be more difficult to use and dries more quickly

so next time i will use Mothers QD +water !!

IMHO swissvax prewax better by far and also meguiers deep crystal polish step 2 very nice product >>not use meg#7 but i think its same product .
