ZAIO vs HD Speed + Poxy

As many of you may know, I'm a huge fan of ZAIO. In fact, you could probably take away all my products and leave me with ONR and ZAIO, and I'd be happy enough. The reason I love ZAIO is its a best in class product, there are only 2-3 real AIOs in my book. My definition of AIO is clean, polish and protect. Many clean and polish, but have very short durability. Others are fairly durable, but don't do much cleaning or polishing.



When 3D/HD announced Speed, I was very excited, I'm always up for trying a new product, especially in the AIO class. I've always loved the looks of HD Poxy, its such a good looking sealant. The thought of being able to clean, polish and protect, while getting the great Poxy shine was very appealing.



My plan of action is to wash, clay and then apply HD Speed to one side of the car and ZAIO on the other. I will be applying with a GG6 and a white polishing pad. I will then select a couple of areas to top with Poxy. I'm thinking of doing 1/4 of the hood with the Speed+Poxy combo and same with the roof, and the other 1/4 just Speed. Thoughts?
 
Found a few hours this weekend to get this knocked out. ONR and clay in one step (Scottwax method). Applied both AIOs with a GG6, white pads, using 4 passes. Approx time for each side was 40 minutes. This is why I love AIOs, great results with so little time. Then i went nuts applying all sorts of other stuff to check out durability.:lol:



Observations:

* Speed was a pleasure to apply, very easy to work with, seemed to have more cut, but stained pad, I like that its thick and doesn't get sucked into the pad

* DG111 cloudied the finish a bit

* Speed/Poxy have a very wax like look

* ZAIO very clear, glass like shine

* ZAIO feels very dry but still slick. Speed is slicker but a bit oily feeling.

Using four largish drops, probably a bit too much, but its hard to regulate the amount out of the bottle.

ZAIO is much thinner, it sinks deep into the pad.

Ok, I couldn't leave well enough alone. Hatch spoiler split with KAIO, Mother's Cleaner, Megs Maroon, Zyrtle Wax. (all applied after using ZAIO and Speed, but each have cleaners so hopefully durability isn't affected).

The batteries in my brinkman were dead, best I could scrounge up was an LED maglight, which doesn't work nearly as well.

Anyway, I'll keep the thread updated. I'm hoping to prove all you guys wrong that think topping an AIO makes sense. :lol: Thanks for looking.
 
DAn- Given your enthusiasm for ZAIO, that'd be an interesting comparison! But IMO adding the Poxy topper would make that part apples/oranges.



Wonder what'd happen if you mixed a bit of Poxy in with the Speed :think: Yeah, I know...but I'm thinking about how people used to mix SRP with Autoglym's EGP back in the day.
 
SPEED already has POXY in it :D



That would be like what Dan is doing, SPEED topped with POXY :)

Since Speed is Poxy based, I want to see if topping it adds any durability. I'm doing the car 1/2 and 1/2, and then splitting the HD side yet again to test the Poxy.

Lol. I'm going to let it go at least 6 months or when the ZAIO dies, whichever is first. Car will be parked outdoors mainly, its a DD and only parked in the garage when I'm driving something else.

I am a big ZAIO user as well but also have Speed and Poxy but haven't had time for a comparison. I really look forward to your findings especially for a DD car. I would be especially interested in:

-Frequency of washing and with what products.

-Use of quick detailers for touch up?

I wish you would have used Duragloss 101 instead of 501 in the triangled area of the ZAIO side. I have yet to see an actual side by side comparison of those two since they are the most similar if not identical formulations. Durability outcome between those two would be very interesting.

I'll probably be using ONR for most of the washes, unless it gets really dirty. As far as QD's, I'll be using them as a drying aid, but no QDs that extend beading, I'll probably just stick with OID and Z6.

I'm not convinced they are the same, in one of my previous experiments, I DG101 fell below DG501 on the cleaning/polishing ability scale, and both were beat by ZAIO, but if I have a few minutes, I'll QD an area on the roof and apply some DG101.

You're correct, that's not a fair statement to say they're identical formulations which they are not. Thanks for taking the time to add the DG101 to your test and I will look forward to the end results.
 
No problem. I ended up doing the drivers side roof, in between the antenna and rear hatch spoiler. Went on nice and smooth, DG101 is great stuff for store bought.
 
Thanks for sharing and definitely looking forward to your updates. I have come full circle with regards to AIOs and agree with your train of thought.

Don't both of them extend beading? I'm pretty sure OID does.
