Zaino Z5 Pro vs. Zaino Z2 Pro - thoughts & images

I used to use Zaino all the time and have never used the ZFX...and I did multiple coats - in fact 9 one day prior to an important show. Is the ZFX that critical if you allow ample drying time between coats, and I do realize now that more than 3 is just a waste of product - I was younger then. ;)

Finally, I have a dark Sparkling Graphite Metallic BMW 330Ci - will it show up stone chips as white or will it dry clear? I only ever used Zaino on my Matallic Silver Mustang.

Thanks.

It'll dry pretty clear.

These should be close to the same color.....it will look good.

This is

3 coats Z-5

2 coats Z-2

Great review Sean! I never thought I'd say this, but I broke down and ordered some Z products last night. I considered doing this back when Z2 Pro came out, and Scott did his review, but never quite got around to it. The new Z5 Pro just sounds too good to pass up.

I have three daily drivers in the family and the ability to apply three coats in one day is the main selling point for me.... especially on the wife's new van. The street rod will continue to get the VM, RMG, YCW, and 'nuba treatment, but maybe someday a little Z might land on it too.

Did you go with the ZFX or just the Z Polishes themselves?

I am on the fence in regard to the ZFX...

ZFX..... so I can do three applications in one day, otherwise I doubt that I would have bothered...... I already have more stuff than I will ever be able to use.

You will be happy if you go with the ZFX over Z1. I love the stuff. Plus, that little bottle has a lot of drops in it.

Z8, the new Zaino crack! :chuckle:

After cleaning up the Porsche with Z6, a pass with Z8 makes it really stand out! Porsche black with Z8 looks insane as all hell now. Very clear, glossy.

The real deal is getting a finish as perfect as possible and as glossy as possible from your polishes. Zaino Z2-Pro looks so much better, no more plastic look!

I still need to take out some minor marring and swirls on the black, but will get to it one of these days. I also have to have a wheel repaired from a curb rash due to a taxi too close. Man, a new wheel costs big $$. Oh yea, stupid me, it's a Porsche so I have to pay more $$ for a wheel.

Anyway, the new Zaino seems to be working fine. Maintenance is easy.

Now Sal has to make a product like 1Z Cockpit Premium !

So I've finally broken down and bought the Zaino Ultimate starter pack and Z8 to use on my 911 which is in mint condition with a pretty damn good finish on it now. I plan to clean it with Griots Paint Prep to remove what it is on it now (just waxes - no sealants) and then polish it (Griots MP 3) to remove some water spots I got on the back deck. After that, what do you guys recommend I do (in order)? (NOTE: I won't need clay because dirt has never been allowed to live on this paint longer than 30 minutes :D ).

How long should I expect each step to take? It is VERY hard for me to get a lot of time to work on the cars. BEST case scenario, I can get 5 hours on Saturday and another 5 on Sunday. The wash and polish will easily take 5 hours, so can I get the rest done in another 5 hours?

Thanks,

Ron

Ron: After the polishing, do a quick Z6 wipedown.

Follow that by mixing up about an ounce of Z2 or Z5 Pro along with 4 drops of ZFX and 4 trigger pulls of Z8. Mist your applicator with Z6 and start applying... VERY THIN.

I've been able to do 3 applications/removals on my paint, wheels, glass in 1 hour. I was working VERY quick, but it is doable.

Sean, do you do your front windshield with Z, or just the side and back glass?

Your tips have been very helpful and I'm sure they will speed up my first Z experience.

All exterior glass.

I coat my wiper blades with Z16 and have not had *any* chattering.

Glad I could be of some help.

Z8 really adds to the final finish.

As I recall, weren't you a Zaino skeptic? Are you reformed now?

Just curious, looking for a reason to buy Zaino, and if you were originally a skeptic, I'd love to hear your thoughts now.

Yes, I was a HUGE Zaino skeptic. A couple members sent me some samples and the water resistant nature of Zaino is impressive. If you like a highly reflective product Z2pro has it in spades. Z5pro has a more balanced look. Z8 is quite impressive as a final topper. The Zaino system isn't perfect yet but it's getting very close. Either Z sealant topped with Z8 looks fantastick and is very durable. That being said, Z is a bit of a pricey investment initially but it does seem to spread further than many other products-so in reality it isn't as expensive as it seems. Many products will look good initially but Zaino tends to keep it's look longer and repell water better than most other products. If you like to apply products frquently than Zaino might not have a huge advantage over your favorite sealant. ZPC is a fantastick product when combined with an orange light cut pad. Truly a one step polish.

I see you're over here reaching out too! Another RENNLIST member!! :hifive:

Ron, Sean has the most current updates as to best results from Zaino. He's a very expierienced detailer and you can trust he will give you the best advise! :2thumbs:

Once you're done polishing, the Z6 wipe-down "preps" it for application of Zaino sealants. After each coat, a very light Z6 wipe-down will work well for you.

You'll love the way Z8 looks for those days you want the best looking shine and more pop! Also cleaning the finish become very easy and a few light wipes with my MF "Connecticut Duster" :chuckle: and a ver spritz of Z6 on it as well, then one final wipe with Z6 and it's clean. Heavy dust I'll wash off. Don't forget the rims! Since treatment of wheels, brake dust washes away w/o using any cleaners. Maybe one day I'll remove all wheels and do both outside and inside, but then again the PCCB's don't hardly dust, but do whine now.

Post some pics when you get a chance up here and on RENNLIST!!

Enjoy the Zaino!

Deanski

Nice Steve!

Yeah, Deanski I'm looking forward to giving it a shot. I'd do it on the Mercedes but it is so damn shiny right now after preping it for a Concours event a couple weeks ago that it would be pointless.

You know I've got nuts with detailing when my 911 is my "dirtest car" and it is only driven on sunny days and is in mint condition! I'm damn near to the point where i'm going to have to ask my neighbor if I can wash his car! :D (yeah, I've already run out of friends cars too - they love me)

I know.. I feel your pain! :chuckle: Same as my C2S.. Driven only on nice days, but it's been so damn hot w/o rain it's been seeing quite a bit of road use!

Enjoy the Zaino! I'm sure you will be very happy with it. First time, just take enough time to get used to this product.

Yep, same here. I think I'm going on my 4th week of using it as a daily driver because we've had no rain on the weekdays (and only one day on a weekend when I wasn't out driving anyway).

K, I'm new, thinking of getting the Zaino stuff. Can someone break it down, step by step product by product for me? I have a speckling silver new paint. I need to know what to buy and how the steps are from after washing and claying the car.

Wash, clay, then what?
