Zaino re-visited

I have done a back-to-back WG / Zaino on my wife's pure black Lexus LS400.

She loved the WG but she was blown away by the Zaino. These are her words, "It looks like a deep black mirror". I had never tried the Zaino on the Lexus for some unknown reason but we have a road trip in 2 weeks and nothing performs like Zaino, from my experience, in terms of easy maintenence and bug adhersion resistances. I prepped with claying, Menzerna IP, AIO and added 2 coats of Z5/ZFX and 2 coats Z2/ZFX over 3 days. I must admit it does look stunning.

As I have mentioned before, Zaino can look quite deep if one develops the depth via prep (polishing) and the original paint has a natural deep quality to it. The good part is that I will stay with the Zaino on this daily driver with no topper because of the ease of maintaining with just Z6 or QS and Z7 or Perls washes. I actually forgot how good a properly Zaino'd vehicle could look. Could it be the AIO that is the missing link for depth and lack of that clearcoat emphasizing tendency (plasticity)?:nixweiss

I still have the WG on the garage queen Z28 convertible and my daily driver silver metallic Escort wagon which are both topped with EX-P which produces a fantastic "POP". This combo works very well with these domestic paint jobs. Durability on the 24/7 exposed silver metallic has been almost 2 months with WG alone (still was beading and feeling great) and 1 month with the EX-P topper. :xyxthumbs

Zane,

I rarely post picture, though nice touch, rarely denotes the small nuisances that separate LSP's.

I really didn't expect the outcome I got but after Nick T's Zaino redux and all the bad press about this product's appearance, which I never thought looked bad, made me want to refresh my memory of the Zaino shine. I truly believe that the AIO was the catalyze that lead to the re-visiting of Zaino because of its trueness to prepped (IP and AIO :xyxthumbs) appearance.

Thanks Jose',

I do love the WG QD. :bow

This was quite a re-discovery week. The Lexus was sitting outside in the full sun (~85*) and I needed to wash her down. I used QEW (my first usage) because even though driven the day before from Durham NC (about 100 miles round trip) in a rain storm there was only a very, very, very lite film on her. Everyone who has used Zaino knows that it is very prone to surface marring if not washed correctly. QEW passed with flying colors in terms of cleaning WITHOUT MARRING THE FINISH (Zaino) :bounce but did require a QD session for the perfect shine. Too hot to use Z6 in direct sunlight on a hot/warm surface. Out trots the QS from the bullpen. Wow, zero streaking and that great QS gloss.

Had a great week playing with some of my neglected car toys. ;)

I've been using AIO with Zaino for awhile now. In my testing the AIO has no effect on the Zaino bonding and does not present any durability issues. Slickness and durability of the Z remains awesome in traditional Zaino fashion. AIO has become my preferred final prep product before Zaino. :up

I have used Zaino over one coat AIO & SG, with no problems. The Zaino applied, removed, looked, and lasted the same as after a double Dawn wash when I was using carnauba.

I think Klasse and Zaino are more compatable than some might think. I could see Zaino having bonding issues with a real heavy wax though, as the oils are resistance between the Zaino and paint.

I do wish Sal would release a real pre-Zaino cleaner. I would probably be a Zaino-lifer if there was real Zaino prep products. That is the biggest flaw in the Z line IMO. Forget about the glass polish, leather crap, and other filler stuff in the line, what we need is paint products.

Edwin, great post! Your wife and my wife should get together sometime... cuz my wife is really enamoured with the Zaino shine as well!!

BTW, what kind of mitt do you use when washing with QEW?

Tony

Awesome, I think I'm addicted to Zaino......after trying Glanz, #16, etc, I keep coming back to Zaino....I think I'm gonna throw on another 3 coats today :D

Tony,

You got a date the next time you and your wife are near Virginia or we are fortunate enough to be in Cali. :D

It really set me back when she said "come look at the car it looks just like a deep black mirror". She has only got excited about 3 products I have applied on the Lexus, Souveran, WG and Zaino. She really noticed the Zaino. Mind you the increasing prep skills had something to do with it and I am positive the IP and AIO added to the picture but you would have thought I brought her a new car. In that context (new car verses Zaino kit), Zaino is really quite a bargain especially sense I bought it (new version) almost a year or so ago. :bounce

Tony, I used Patrick's (Exceldetail) chenille loop MF mitts. I use it as a rag. This concentrates the loops and doubles the plushness.

I do not understand why QEW works but it does and as I become more skilled with its usage I am sure the results will get better (no need to QD :nixweiss). I am still a full wash advocate but would not hesistate using QEW again if the situation calls for it.

My wife is enamored of the shine as well.

Do you folks use AIO by hand or buffer??

jgv- where can you get this WG QD, I have the Z-6 and like it alot but always willing to try something different, especially if it is better than what I am using.:up

Jose',

Our 1Z LackFinish / Final Inspection mixture also works and looks excellent on Zaino.

Same Z6 sparkle with added polymer protection. No streaking at all. Very cost effective alternative to Z6. :xyxthumbs.

Someone else has mentioned that Sal Zaino says you can dilute Z6 with distilled water 1:1 to make it last longer.
