Your Favorite Pads

I had a bad experience with some LC white pads (happened to get some from PAC just prior to a "series of unforunate events") this past weekend.

I was using them with Menz PF on some GM paint (moderate). They just absorbed the polish and it seemed to dry very fast, and then quickly started skipping on the paint. I was using the Flex DA with the larger and smaller backing plates. I never felt I actually dialed in until I tried an Uber green that I just happened to have. The LC were also a pain to clean.

i find myself reaching for the hyrotech pads and the da microfibers for the pc, the black and green lcs polishing pads with the rotary... my wife and daughter prefer always

Funny!
Sorry I dont get my pads here to comment.

DC, This is the point of my thread. As far as I know the pads I like aren't sold elsewhere. So I am asking for fave pads that you get at other places so I can try them.

Do tell......I think as long as you don't give a link you can tell me you get pad xyz from shop abc.

Thanks

Sounds like an excuse to drive to San Diego. :D Can you send me a PM with the name of the store? Maybe I can have them ship me a few.

Hey guys (and DC),

Give me your thoughts on your favorite foam pads for DA and rotary. And where do you get them?

I liked the classic flat pads form PAC but now I can't get them. Boo Hoo

:toetap05:

flat foam pads from detailers domain. i use them all. use them every day. use them with my dewalt dw849 rotary every day.

yellow, orange, green & blue. i dont use any other pads at all. have been using the DD pads for many years now with great results.

I only detail my vehicles so its mostly the white lc 6.5 CSS flat pads on the rotary. Then us the 4" gold lc pad with the polishing pal or pc.

Thought the lc pads were more popular. Maybe make a poll for favorite pads. :D

I still try to get the Lake Country Hydro-Shred pads to work for me; the Cyan, Tangerine and Crimson. I buy them at Detailed Image out of New York.

Have also used all the colors of the Lake Country Flat Pads, all purchased from PAC over the years.. They work ok, certainly last way longer than the first ones mentioned above...

Im going to run out of patience soon, and will probably go with the BuffnShine, and Phil's Uber pads at Detailers Domain, in New Jersey.

Wish I could get the people at L/C to tell me exactly what the people at the OEM level who use the Hydro-Shreds do to make them last - or maybe they dont ???????? Maybe they are really just a 1-time and throw away thing??

sorry for the noob questions, but what are the problems you have with the pads?

What makes a pad your favorite over others, is it how the pad spreads and works the product, how easy it is to clean up when your done, how long a pad lasts?

Sorry for the noob questions, but the only other pads I used other than the lc pads are cheap swap meet pads, so I don't have much to compare too. Lol. So having said that, I really like the lc pads, but now I'm wondering what I'm missing out on with others, lol. might have to spend some more money. :cornut:

Mustangous -

The L/C Hydro pads I referred to work great ! The Cyan cuts really well, is made of a non-reticulating foam formula, that helps keep the product on the pad surface and it doesnt soak up into the pad easily.
This pad cuts and finishes down really nicely; in my use, it leaves a nice smooth, clear finish.
The Tangerine version cuts less, but finishes even better at the end, because it is made with a foam formula that is not as aggressive as the Cyan pad.
The Crimson version is a great pad to use for applying glazes, sealants, etc., at the end the process for me.
All the pads are great, you only need 3 or even 2 to finish some vehicle paintwork to stunning results.
The common problem they all have, is that the longer they are worked, and heated, and have pressure applied to them, they start to separate and eventually shred bits of foam everywhere - especially in a Rotary Power situation, which is what I use always, to correct paint.
When washed with the Lake Country System pad washer, it too, will cause these pads to start separating and shredding.
This has always been the issue, since Day-1 of their release.
Much has been written about this, and for awhile L/C replaced them, but then they just walked away from the issue - shredding - and have not for years, come back to the buying public with a solution.
I also have an extensive collection of their Classic Flat Pads in all colors, and none of them have ever had the foam separation/shredding problem the Hydro pads have.
All of their pads work great, do their job as intended, no surprises, the backing stays on and doesnt come off,, etc..
I just went to their website - lakecountrymfg.com, and they briefly mention the Hydro pads, but nothing on any of their own Blogs about them and certainly nothing about the problems they have with using them..
I dont know who makes the other pads sold by Buff n Shine, or Phil's Uber pads - it might be L/C ! :) But I do hear good things about all of them, so perhaps maybe soon, when I run the rest of the Hydro-Shreds into the trash can, I will switch over..
Good luck with your research !

I have a few hydro tech pads and have gotton a few uses out of them , one ripped a little in the middle when I cleaned it with a brush but I still use it.

I read that they have to be completely dry when using them because the moisture causes them to heat up .

I stopped using one when I had to use all my strength to rip it off my DA it was hot and almost melted to the backing plate .

On a rotary I kept switching the pads every couple of panels and the pads are still good.

Anymore help on this would be appreciated from me too because I want to get as many uses as I can out of my 3 hydro pads.

I started out with 6.5 LC CCS hi-gloss. I have not had any issues so I never tried anything else. I recently stocked up from PAC but I'll prob end up switching to dd uber pads, but I'm not looking forward to new colors.
