Working With a FLEX Polisher

I'm a new FLEX user so I have a question for you veteran FLEX guys.

I'm curious, do you treat the FLEX the same as other dual action polishers? I mean do you use the same product and pad you would have used with a PC or UDM?

I find myself using less aggressive polishes now and still getting much faster results with the FLEX.:bigups

FYI: Any of you guys that do this for a living. You need to have one of these in your arsenal. I am ashamed of myself for waiting so long to try one.
 
Troy, I am on the edge of buying one. I'm weighing my options on what big ticket purchase I should make. I was thinking DI water, maybe a huge order of stuff, or maybe a nice air compressor.... I dunno. I need a BOAT LOAD of pads.

I have had the chance to use the flex, and it was different. Not sure I used it enough to get used to it. It felt very grabby, if that is the word I was looking for.

What type of time savings are you looking at?

Well it is not going to be as easy to control as a traditional D/A. It's a step saving machine for me. I find myself doing paint correction I would normally have to pull out the rotary for. Plus it will polish out the paint swirl free a lot faster than a traditional DA. Depends on the finish as to how much time you save but you will save time using this machine.
 
I am sort of bummed with my PC. For over 3 years I have been using one. I just spend too much time with it and it's correcting capabilities. As for the pad selection, yes, it's the same as using a PC or UDM.

I spent less than 6 months on my PC, and instantly upgraded to a rotary when I started out detailing

Troy, is the FLEX better than a CYCLO?

I may not be the person to ask because I have only used a Cyclo once and didn't like it. I like the PC better than a Cyclo and the FLEX corrects better than a PC so, going by that, my answer would be yes.
 
Troy glad to see you liked the Flex, you were such a hard sell on that machine! :notme: Haven't seen Dwayne twist your arm like that before!

Once anyone uses a Flex they have a hard time every picking up a PC again. Just makes the job so much faster.

A little off topic, but I see an issue with the DC forums. Your post got me wanting to click on over to the DC store, yet I can not find an easy link to click to get there from here (the forums). Maybe I am missing it, but I looked for several minutes. I think it would be a good idea to put a link on the page somewhere - in case discussion gets someone itching to look and all.

And your signature doesn't count. You may not be involved in all discussions.
 
It's on the front page in the site navigation box. I appreciate you looking out for me Jared.;)

I will probably make it an easy to find link in the top nav soon. As well as a link at the bottom.
 
When you are in the forums, there's no link that I can easily find. I did do some more looking and when I went to the forum homepage (frontpage) there is a link.

I would like a flex, I just don't polish enough these days to justify the cost.

I have used the Flex a few times. I really like it and can not wait to get mine in a few weeks. I use only 4" pads on my PC and 6.5" with Flex. So far I have used the same polishes, Prima Swirl, SIP, M105... I do find finsihing polishes work out much better with a FLex then PC
 
I've been contemplating getting a flex. I have 2 DA's a Makita. I figure the Flex would be great for the express details to cut time.
 
For those of us with 4-in and 5-in pads, it seems an even more expensive jump. What is the smallest pad you can get working with a Flex DA?

6 inch.

I would recommend atleast a 6½" pad though to keep the backing plate from doing any damage.

The 7½" curved CCS Lake Country pads work well with the FLEX too.

When I first got it I was like a kid looking for scratches to buff out. I remember being the same way with my PC though too. :redface:
