Why DONT you use a product ?

Just a little thought provoking thread ......

Anyone used a product, had some difficulty with it and put it back on the shelf never to see the light of day again ?

The ones that come to mind for me immediately are Klasse SG (too thin!! too hard to see when its hazed so I always miss spots... arg) I guess it isnt the products fault ... just me.

and :

Zaino !

Im not laying out the best part of $100 just so I can't use it with any other product and after millons of hours buggering about layering it end up with that plasticky shine I dislike so much.

i'm sure I'll think of some more ...

Anyone else ?

P.S. Im actively looking for a new velcro pad system cos the Megs one SUCKS!!!!!

I can't include it above tho as I'm still using it.

:angry :angry

I doubt I'll ever try Zainos because the initial application seems to be way too time consuming. I don't doubt it is an excellent product line, but it's only available via mail order and I can get outstanding results from other products in less time.

I also will not buy any waxes from any company that uses Teflon or PTFE in any of their waxes.

Basically $$ constraints. I can't have everything I want, but hey its a hobby why not spend some money on something fun!

Well the products I don't use anymore are Rain-X because it jsut didn't appeal to me, along with Armour All Paste wax (keep it around for memory because it was my first can of wax), and lastly the Turtle Wax Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound I have. Only kept it because I've spent $2 on it and always prepared for the worst.

I use products that are hard to use but I feel the results are worth it. I'm sure its not easy to play music like Metallica does but they do it and they do it well and people appreciate it. That's how I feel about some of the products. Because RainX and SG are tricky to use I have tried to figure out the best way to apply it so that I can provide a service that other people may not be able to because its either time consuming or too difficult for them.

I don't use Zaino for the same reasons that Scott doesn't use it. Its one thing that I do feel is more trouble than its worth especially since I have so many other options available to me that will still knock their socks off. Maybe I would use a product like that on my own cars but I wouldn't use it professionally on other cars most likely. Its just personal preference. I've seen great Zaino pics and I'm sure its a good product.

I don't use QDs or car wash solution with carnauba in em. I layer my sealants too much and I'm picky about what kind of wax I'm using after my layers are done.

I don't use Lexol because it smells like (you know what).

I don't use Back to Black because I've found a dozen other things that work better. That is probably the only product I've ever purchased that is still sitting on my shelf barely used. I haven't even opened that bottle for probably 4 years. It just didn't work well at all for me. Since I started using autoint's trim and molding renewer I just can't imagine something working better anyway.

I won't use anything but Prestone on carpets. Well, Prestone or Advanage consentrate. I've tried a hundred other products and I just haven't found one that works as well. I love that stuff.

I don't use anything but A2Z on wheels. Too many bad experiences.

Hmmmm.... what else...? Oh, I don't use anything but Autopia to get the best opinions and information about detailing products from the best versed and most professional people on the web. :D

The first one that comes to mind is Klasse SG. I've totally given up on this product. It's hard to work with, and it's a crapshoot if you get the infamous Klasse haze. It's also iffy on cure times, etc. It shines nice, and is durable, but it's more trouble than it's worth. :down

Other than that, Zymol comes to mind. Totally overpriced and over rated. I was pretty disappointed with ClearKote Moose Wax too, certinaly won't be using that again.

Great thread!

Meguiars claybars for me. Made nothing but a mess. Threw it away after 1 vehicle.

Personally, I won't buy products than can only be purchased online, so I guess I'm avoiding all the "hard to use" products. I want to try the Klasse stuff so bad though - after the "Power of AIO" pics that were posted a while ago. I have called every dealership around here asking for it. Somehow I read a message wrong and thought Autioint carried Klasse products so I contacted them and when they said they produced their own products I asked for a product comparable to AIO they suggested their OEM One Step and I have been happy with it, just not sure if it's really the same results.

Ditto on the Trim and Molding Renewer from Autoint - that stuff is incredible! Only thing left is to see how long it lasts before it needs to be applied again.

Oh what a thread! As Smoker knows, when you live in Europe, where all those products are not available in the next store, you get to give them more value, and appreciate each one more.

Now to the point of the thread, I'm surprised about the opinions on the SG, never had a problem with it. I use it most of the times on silver or rims.

What I really don't use?? Arexons paste wax, my first wax, bought it 3 years ago. Had to spread it, let it haze and then remove. As hard to buff as ?glue??

I have Klasse twins, Platinum twins, P21S twins, Poorboys EX, Mothers Step 1 and 2, Menzernas polishes and wax, 3M PI-III line, Einzsett (over 15 bottles! of different products), Farecla, Presta, Eagle One, Forever Black, man, a lot, and use each one from time to time.

Oh yes, I've had problems using one product lately, cause of it's smell, the Presta Aurora 3000 glaze, anyone knows it?

3M SMR- doesn't do anything and I find it difficult to work with. Anyone want my bottle? Eimann Fabrik Black Opal- the smell makes me want to hurl.

Hahahaaaaa .. freaky - went to my fave detailing supply store for a chat and to pick up some Final Detail, #00 and some more Vinyl Protectant and spied a lonely dusty old bottle on the bottom shelf.

:nixweiss

Yup ... Presta Aurora 3000.

All i could wonder was .. WTF is this stuff ?

LOL.

Actually I found some really interesting stuff next to it that was sposed to remove all kinds of sticker residue, window tint adhesive etc etc ...

I was sorely tempted but it was 18 bucks .... arg.

I'll get the name next time.

Believe it or not but I still have not one but two partially used one pound tins of Classic Car Wax manfactured in West Palm Beach,FL. I bet this crap is older than many of the people that will read this. This cost $5.00 when I bought it back in the 60's which puts it i n the same price range of Pinnacle or even some of the Zymol's.

Every time I read a complaint about difficulties removing a product I think back to the days of using this stuff on my Healey. Applying a coat of this stuff was a full weekend project.

Why do I still have it ?

:nixweiss

Maybe someday the Smithsonian will give me a call and ask me to donate for a display to sit alongside a can of the original Blue Coral which was just , if not more difficult to remove with a brilliant shine that faded in sunlight in less time than it took to whipe it off.

I still have a can of original Simoniz. Had a can of orange can Simoniz with the picture of a 1940s car on it gave it to a friend who has a show case of old products in his shop.I found a pint can of Duco auto paint will give to him for his case

The first one that comes to mind is Klasse SG. Agreed.....what a hassle....

Meguiars claybars for me. I have it, but what a mess it makes, all over your hands ! It softens up way too much......wont be buying anymore of that stuff...

S100 , still wondering what the rave is about.....

I have a can of the "Original Liquid Glass" no not the one you all have seen...this one of the originals from the original designer and manufacturer...it has the "LA Rocket Car" on the front with a $1,000 reward for anyone who could name the 33 different cars that made up the car...it has a picture of the owners wife in the car and the price:scared $2.50...$2.95 in forein countries:nixweiss

opn the back it has a characture of him and his wife sipping martini's and an offer of

1 can $2.50

6 cans $10.85

12 cans $19.85

This is the real deal ...not the stuff that comes in the can with the Corvette on the front...
