Why DONT you use a product ?

Why are you guys having so much problem with SG? I've tested it on a White Hood and Spoiler and I didn't get any haze, maybe I did I just can't see it cause of the color of my paint?

SG just takes some time to get used to. Some people take to it like a fish to water and others just take a little longer. I've never had any problem with it either. I've used it on all colors and never seen the haze.

If they knew that, they probably wouldn't be having problems. ;)

Some people get the SG haze and some don't. It's hard to say much beyond that and the "why" is still a mystery.

Thanks for the pics Poorboy. Wow, talk about a period piece! Too bad it's not really in "collectable" condition. :)

Well I keep it because it makes me laugh when people say they use the real stuff with the Corvette on the can...

I have much better luck with BF I or II, than I did with Klasse SG.....I do like the AOI though.....

Just a little thought provoking thread ......

P.S. Im actively looking for a new velcro pad system cos the Megs one SUCKS!!!!!

I can't include it above tho as I'm still using it.

:angry :angry

Hi Smoker,

I apologize for the problems your having with a DA backing plates.

We are working on that issue, and when we have the problem solved, I will send you a complimentary one.

How does that sound?

Hey Mike, let me know when you get it fixed too. I really liked the pad but the fuzzy part on the back stopped sticking to my backing plate after only a few weeks. I have no choice but to buy another one but if I have to spend 12 bucks on a pad every 3 weeks then its going to add up. :(

I sure will,

As I told Smoker in a "Private Message"; I have had the same problem with the Velcro backing and I can assure everyone that Meguiar's is aware of the problem and has already made some major changes with more on the way.

Quality feedback about the performance of your products is one of the best features that forums like this offer. In my opinion, serious car enthusiasts and detailing fanatics that hang out and share their experiences have their finger on the pulse of the car wax industry, and specifically… what works and what doesn’t.

Especially feedback like this,

I'm staying at the Quality Inn, here in Fort Collins, Colorado, getting ready for my "How-To" seminar tomorrow for the Ford Centennial Event.

When I get back to the office on Tuesday, I will check with the guy in charge of this "Action Item", and let you know where it stands.

Mike

Products I DON'T use:

Turtle Wax, ever since my turtle ran away

3M Tire Dressing, after I saw it contained petroleum distillates

Crap, i just ordered the three pack of pads(two polishing, one finishing) a couple of weeks ago along with a gallon of swirl free. Guess I'll be making another order soon:doh

I like the results that I get with Blitz wax and think they are better than S100, but it attracts way too much dust and produces way too much dust upon removal for me. It sits on the shelf by itself.

Sorry I wasn't very subtle but I had a nasty scare on a 2001 Mazda Millennia I was buffing out when the pad parted company with the backing plate 'frizbee style' and I nearly hit the paint with the bare velcro hooks.

:scared :scared

I can work around the lack of stickiness till something better comes along, as I like and use ALOT of Megs stuff (as Jngrbrd has seen :P) and will wait and give megs chance to do something about it.

I own quite a few Megs pads, but I really need to replace them soon with *something* (dunno yet) and didnt want to buy any that wont fookin stick !!!!!!!

Not to say 3m ones or Farecla ones .. or even CMA ones will be any better, economically I cant go buying up hordes of pads and backing plates just to see which one stick lol.

Unless of course any suppliers wanna 'donate' one of each so I can test em all ?

;) ;)

Products I don't use.

Meguiar's Quick Detailer (in the purple consumer bottle). Had problems with those fine, oily streaks from it.

Eagle One WET Tires dressings. Browning of tires and fling off stains.

Meguiar's Scratch X. I prefer Eagle One's Scratch Remover.

Adam's Brilliances and Butter Wax - Makes the surface a dust magnet. Products also overpriced for the results you get.

Pro's Miracle Wax - too hard to buff off. Prefer Meguiar's #6 Cleaner Wax.

I could probably come up with more.

Meguiar's!!!

Spent 400+ for a couple of their ultra kits - including one with the PC.

Velcro failed on pads by their 3-4 use, backing plate would not hold on a new pad in excess of speed 5. Wheels fell off their rolling cart. No customer service. Products are okay.

Yep I know it's not the best choice to toss out all their products but based on my experience with them they have nothing that I have found that is neccessary to provide a first class detailing job. I also make sure other know why I have taken this stand.

I agree with hubris63. I have quite a soft spot for Blitz wax (and One Grand products in general) because it was the first product I ever used on my car and gives great shine, but the amount of dust and static it creates is just scary. Klasse AIO and S100 are just infinitely easier to buff. I sometimes get the urge to dig out my tin of Blitz and use it up as a topper or something, but it never happens.

I will also never use Meguiars Quik Wax again because it made a mess and was hard to remove. That's what I get for trying to take a shortcut to waxing.

Oh boy, this is a great thread!

Products I will not use again;

Coats Power Buff - a haze monster

Coats Mild Buff - a chalky dust monster

Klasse SG (Smoker and SRL said it all)

Mothers Back to Black - run run run

Rain X - pure torture

303 Aerospace Protectant - expensive, horrible smell, practically can't tell anything is even there.

Orange Power Pads - can't get over the whacky shape, get equal results with less expensive pads

Any tire foam - messy

Meg's Engine Kote - spotty drying and PITA if you if you get oversrpay on a fender (I know I know....don't get oversrpay on the fenders Natty). Meg's W-Dressing is much better suited to the job, imo.

Anything with the Pinnacle name - stratospheric prices that I cannot justify.

I'm sure I could come up with more but I'll stop there.

Here is a partial list

Zaino. Jngrbrdman said it best. I still have some somewhere and plan on leaving it there.

Zymol, overrated imo.

Any tire dressing that involves only spraying and then hosing off immediately. (never works and poor for your rims).

overpriced online stores. If I can get the same product at another site that may not be as "hyped" but is cheaper, why not. It is my money.

BFII. I personally think that UPP gives similar results with less streaking, dust for a more appropriate price.

The list goes on;) .

For what it's worth...

Eagle One Wet Liquid wax, (does not protect )

GS27, (why did I even try it)

Any and everything Turtle wax

Tire foams:down (messy)

Zymol, (why pay more when Meguiars works better?)

Eagle One tire wet, (the one that splatters over your whole car)

Autozone microfiber towels. (scratches)

That's all I can think of now. :nixweiss
