Who's doing/done their winter prep?

Anywhere from 4 to 6 layers of 476 on thus far. I don't like layering 476 without doing a traditional wash in between coats so I have to do it while it's nice enough to wash outside. Probably a bit early but better safe than sorry.

Glad to see another Western NY-er on the forum..........it's lonely out here :)!!

BTW, since when is late September TOO early for anything winter related?? I'm starting NOW. It's so fickle around here. One cold blast across Lake Erie and Buffalo can be socked in!! Same here in Roch-cha-cha......ugh. You have to be like me and dreading the winter season. What I'd do for just 50'sF around here Nov. - March! (I love you guys from the southern & southwestern states who are doing your "winter prep". :) :) The crap around here is real winter............especially when it snows, thaws and gets sloppy!)

Collonite 845 just arrived and I'm trying it for the first time for winter preparation on the DD. Hope the claims of our friends in Utica hold up!

See ya. :wavey

Yes, it is lonely! Autopians in WNY are a rare breed. :tumblewee

I need to order some rubber floor mats (along with snow tires and new wiper blades in about a month and a half) in addition to my winter detailing prep. Poli-Seal plus a layer of 476s is what I'm counting on to keep me protected this winter. If you are doing 845, I would add another layer during a nice day in late November or early December, I'm probably going to do the same with 476s.

Let us know how that turns out in the spring.

I started 3 weeks ago.

Newer Benz Wagon: OPS, 1000p x 2 + DWG for fun (looks AMAZING!)

Old Benz Wagon: 815IW,476s, OCWx2

2500hd: 815IW+476s (maybe need a late feb layer of 815)

3 Down, 5 to go.

:waxing:

just did my moms car this weekend clayed plus a 1 coat of dg105 along with there bonding agent. might throw another coat on next weekend.

started my nismo today full decontamation to remove all the other waxes i have on it. i then clayed the car with mothers clay bar, wont ever do that agian, it marred the crap outta my car, so now i had to polish it. im using 205 on green lcc pad via rotary . im very impressed with this combo removed all the marring and took about 95 percent of all swirlls out, only left a few rids behind and no halograms. will top with dg 105 or mabey bh autobalm. Has any one else had a clay bar marr up there car bad?

I'll be applying a couple of coats of Blackfire Wet Diamond next month on my S2000. I am already using Ultima Paint Guard Plus on my wife's CR-V. I'll just keep using that.

Hey, glad to here back & that you're doing Poli-Seal. I'll be using that, as well. Then adding the Collonite 845. Not sure if I'm ordering snows for the Impala from TR or not (I have snows & wheels from the 2005 I had but need the tire pressure monitors to go with them).......and I need wipers too. Sounds familiar!

Hope the snow stays away, too. Today's weather sucked!

Go Bills! (Oh, please.......please get going. By the time we get to game 8, they'll have no starting players. Ugh...ugly loss on Sunday....I thought they had a shot until Jauron elected to punt w/7min. to go on 4th and one. That was it......and the fact that they didn't really try getting the ball to wide receivers very well. :( Well, let's hope!!)

See ya. :wavey

Hey, I know about those ice storms down there. For the few times I've been to Dallas, one of those visits was spent IN an ice storm.....a gargantuan mess, to say the least. Especially on the interstates.....! Disaster.......it's bad here as well under those conditions, but, we've heard of salt! The weather has to be similar in OK. But, the temps largely stay up & the snow.......well, we'll not try to compare the snow............ UGH :)

Good luck w/the Black Diamond. Have heard good things about it and seen some professionally done cars using it. Stunning results.

See ya. :wavey

it always snows the day after thanksgiving up here so a little early to be doung anything. I will be getting rubber mats and snow tires in the next few weeks to avoid the rush. But around nov I will clay polish and seal the cars with 895. Rain x on the windows dress all trim change the oil all that stuff. Check the under carrige out. The past two winters have been awful they are saying it is going to be awful this year too. I will be ready.

Yeah, but never with clay as mild as the Mother's

Soft clearcoat - it doesn't matter what type fo clay or how much I kneed it, I always marr the hell out of my g35 claying it. And it's black, so it sucks.

yea i know nissian and infinity have soft clear. but at least it cleans up good.

Personally, I hate it - I love my Z06s clear. I can wash and wash and wash and wash and not find any new micro-marring. Do the same with my g35, no matter how careful I am, and every so often I can find new micro-marring. Not much, most people wouldn't be able to see it unless they were using a Brinkman all the time post-washing and tilting their head every which way, but it's there and it displeases me greatly :(

Somewhere along the way (I think 02-03) Nissan switched clears. My dad's 01 q45 is a pleasure to wash and work with - easy to correct, but does not marr easily. 03 g35 is another story.

What is the general course of action for some of you guys and your winter prep? Like, the entire process. I'm new to this, so I'm slowly learning. :)

Just started the winter wheels tonight.

The rest of the scheduled winter prep:

Correction: For the most part it should be a single stage correction. I'm hoping Menzerna P106FA will take care of 95% of the few light swirls and I've seen 2 spots that will require either 105 or SIP.

Sealant: FK1000P x 2 or more depending on time

Wax: FK2685 (Pink Wax)

Looks like a FK winter test is upcoming.

I think I've got a few more weeks but def have start thinking about my plan of attack/protection.

I finally found the combo I'll need to be able to effectively get out the swirls (maybe about 80-90% correction).

I just need to get some more supplies (4inch pads and backing plate)

I REALLY want to be able to correct the entire car before I do a final seal for winter (so far I've only been able to do the top of the trunk lid).

anyway, what I've been doing is layering lusso oro nuba over 1z glanz

so winter prep would be:

polish remainder of car

2 coats of 1z glanz

2-3 coats of lusso oro

i've also been considering switching to a different sealant like opti-seal

any comments?

oh and the car is a silver audi if that makes any difference

lucky.. in DE we dont see too much snow. but they feel the need to keep the roads white with salt and sandyyyy.. its rediculous for the amount of snow we get.. im still trying to figure out what to put on my car for the winter.. i have 3 coats of liquid glass on right now.. but i dont know if ill replace it with klasse, or collinite 845 or 476, 3m, or duragloss 105 and 111 .. nothing seems to last through 90+ miles driving in salt at 65 mph 4-5 times a week...
