Which Wax at Car Show ???

There is a site that has pics of DeLoreans all done up like that. Some on monster truck wheels, some riced out like Civics, some chrome plated, some cartoon painted.... It just went on and on. Some people have no respect for beauty. But then again, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I just think it goes to show that the blind shouldn't be allowed to own a Lamborghini or a DeLorean. :p

I couldn't agree more...

OK

I use Autoglym alot and i NEVER EVER have had results like that on my car... and its black!! but not a lambo its a Focus.

My car has had in the past 2-3 coats of SRP then 4-5 coats of HGF in one session and it looks nothing like that lol

just switched to meguiars.. dont tell me i have made a mistake!!

We are all talking about prep work..

so whats the best prep work to get it looking that good then.

my cars finish is as smooth as silk so doesnt need clay?

and apart from that what the hell do we do...

Yet most of the talk on this forum is about the 5%.

hmm.... a lot of it is, isn't it. But we still do have lots of discussions over swirl removal and such...

Well there is a big difference between a paint job on a Lambo than there is on a Ford Focus. I believe that the Lambo's finish costs as much as the Focus itself. Plus wet sanding does make a difference even if it makes the paint thinner and more fragile. But on a Lambo that is usually taken care of often and garaged, its nothing to worry about. On a daily driver especially in the UK, I would worry about unnecessary wet sanding.

What is the condition of the finish on your car? Is it swirled? It may be smooth, but swirls might detract from the finish. It might also need a good polishing to revitalize the paint. I prefer a PC to make a good finish even better. A 2001 Mustang that is garaged 95% of the time looked good, but after a polishing with a paint cleanser and Porter Cable dual action polisher, the yellow really popped out. It was like giving a facial cleansing to the car. Pinnacle Souveran just deepend that shine and added some more POP.

What type of Meguiar's products did you get?

Technique and the right products will make a outstanding finish.

I used Souveran, Meguiar's #26, and Blitz wax on a dark blue Toyota Collora. They all made the car look good, but it got to the point of diminishing returns and the paint job on a 15K car isn't that great, plus it has roughly 90K on it already. The Souveran had the best feel in terms of slickness and was the easiest to apply, the Blitz offered protection, while the #26 offered good local availability (could get a tin at Autozone.) I ended up using Blitz for the protection because the look was the same for all 3 waxes.

Don't think the Corolla's finish could match up with this MB, it just takes Souveran so well......

Cheers Jason.

There are very few swirl marks on my car and it has alot of polish on it at the moment. i am using 3m pIII at the moment but i find it leaves more swirl marks than auto glym so was after a change.

i bought Meguiars gold class wax and polish and ordered them. And then as usual with me i stumbled on this site and saw the wealth of experiance on here and now wonder if it maybe was a waste of money!!

I have never used a PC i just polish by hand.

Mike

mike, ive always hand polished and had great results with autoglym but then i bought a halfords buffer for 40 pounds and

was honestly amazed by the results it gave. If i could recommend

one piece of kit that will truly transform a paint finish for little outlay get a buffer . . . get the 240 volt one though not the 12 volt. Obviously it dosent rotate as fast as a PC but its not going to damage your paintwork either. Also if your paintwork is in good nick try one grand products. Im currently using the following method: claying, one grand polish, autoglym SR, one grand blitz wax. Results are, great protection with a glass, wet look on my metallic BRG paintwork. You can get One grand products by post too. Rol on a nice hot sunny day, best regards , Mark

Edited to say, dont use the autoglym paint renovator, it puts in

more swirls than it removes!

Hey Mark i dont suppose you have the model number or make of the buffer do you?

Also having never used one or seen one in use

What part of the process do i use it?

Application and removal of wax?

Aplication and removal of SRP?

A break down would be appreciated of how to use it

:xyxthumbs

Cheers

mike, they only make one 240 volt version at £39.99. It comes with a application and buffing bonnet. Ive bought 2 other applicator bonnets, one for the one grand polish, one for the autogylm SR and one for the final wax. I use it for all the products as it spreads more evenly over the paint surface. I use a Micro fibre cloth over the top of the finishing bonnet to remove.

Ive looked at many buffers and this is the best made product for the money out there. Its very easy to use, basically use with minimal pressure and work the buffer either in a "E" cylcle or figure of 8 pattern. I might hand buff the wax just cos i like the feel of freshly detailed paintwork!

Sorry to go on but you said you apply the products using the buffer?

and remove with the buffer but with a MF over the top of it?

Cheers

thats it.....to remove the products i lay a MF on the car and place the buffer on the MF . . . . put all the products on with the buffer, better distribution, more even and you use less product too!
