what's the deal with zaino users?

2. Dawn wash. My car nor my customers cars will not be washed with Dawn. I like to move forward in the detailing process, not backward.

Using Dawn or any other alkaline dish detergent is NOT moving backward in the detailing process. It is an inexpensive and readily available product that will remove oils and waxes without damaging the paint or removing bonded polymer protectants.

Everyone knows water boils at 212 degrees (at sea level) but you add coolant and pressure and you raise the point at which it will boil. Same with carnauba.

I’d like to know your secret for pressurizing the carnauba on wheels!

This thread is one of the most entertaining and least informative threads that I’ve read in a long time!

It is downright stupid to argue that any given product is better than any other given product. There is no best product! The underlying paint on our cars is different - - even on the same make and model with the same paint number - - due to aging and previous treatment. The expectations of each of us are different. For some of us taking care of our car’s paint is work, for others it’s therapeutic!

If we could all stop dealing with paint care products and methods/techniques as though they are on the same plane as a religion and start collecting general facts we would all save ourselves a lot of wasted emotion and time.

Striping down the paint is moving backwards and removing all oils, etc is a step back. Read any owners manual, NO DISH SOAP!

Use it if you want, I won't unless I am about to repaint a car.

I don't use carnauba on my wheels. In fact, I think I may have waxed mine once or twice in the 4 years I have had the wheels. I don't see a benefit with ceramic brake pads.

I've done a little research this weekend on the pH levels of car washes and shampoos. All this information is obtainable in the MSDS Sheets.

[/B]Note:[/B] I [/B]commend[/B] Mequiar's for making this information available online. The majority of product manufacturer's do not provide MSDS on their products. So as it may seem that I'm picking specifically on Mequiar's, I'm not, it's just that their information is readily available to the general public.

pH @ 70 degrees F:

Dawn: ~8

Mequiar's Car Wash & Conditioner: 8.5

Mequiar's Car Soft Wash Gel: 8.5

Mequiar's Deep Crystal Car Wash: 6.5

Mequiar's Hyper Wash: 8.5

Mequiar's Detailer Shampoo Plus: 8.5

Mequiar's Car Wash Soap: 9.5 (Ouch)

Mequiar's Wash and Wax: 7.5

Mequiar's Quick Suds: N/A

Mequiar's Deep Crystal Economy Car Wash: 6.5

Mequiar's NXT Generation Car Wash: 8.5

Mequiar's Rich Sud's Car Wash: 7.0

Mequiar's Gold Class Car Was & Conditioner: 8.5

Mequiar's Hi-Tech Wash: 8.5

Assuming that 7.6 to 8.4 can be considered ~8, 70% of the products list above are approximately equal to or greater than the pH of Dawn.

I agree that Dawn should NOT be used everytime you decided to wash your automobile and is not recommended my Zaino. As many of us know, claybarring and polishing removes the existing wax or sealent on the surface, therefore, no need to remove the "contaminants" from the surface using Dawn. A light wash with Z7 removes the oils and fillers (mostly other oils) left behind from polishing.

I used Zaino on my whtie Integra and the shine is like a mirro, but it lacks the depth of other products, and I don't like the fact that it's not compatible with other products. However, the protection is unbeatable, after 6 months, it's still beading. My CMW only last about 6 weeks.
