What up with you people ?

I was reading a post this morning and like a lot of times someone is having a problem. Besides typing a how to I often wonder if some fellow autopian lives near this guy to help and show him.

I scroll back up and see there is no location listed. I get it that it`s the internet and you can`t be too safe. So leave the address off and just list your street and town-lol. I promise I`m not coming over to detail your cars at night when your sleeping

Or sometimes it`s a problem with bugs or pollen or winter mess and without some geography it`s difficult to offer advice.

Just a geographic marker so perhaps you can get the help you need. I`m not quite sure why it bothers me so much but it does so fill in that blank people.

What part of LI (Long Island?) do you live in?

I`m coming over tonight and one bucket washing your car, no grit guard, Dawn dish soap, an old wash cloth, and drying with a old crusty bath towel:)

1313 mocking bird way.

Smile for the camera. ( or wear a hoodie)

My point exactly.

I`m on Long Island and I have helped many I`ve met in here and also been helped myself.

I don`t advocate inviting strangers to your house.

But I`ve met guys outside gotten to know them and actually made some good friends.

Anyway fill out some general geography will ya?

Was thinking Lithuania myself...bit of a drive.

I agree about the location not being listed. A bigger pet peeve of mine is when I send a PM to someone that goes like this............Hi JSFM35X, I saw you post about xyz and I was wondering....blah, blah blah. Thanks, Chris (my name) and they reply with one or two words and don`t even put their name in the email. I don`t even want to reply back, not to mention, do I have to call you by your screen name forever?

If someone sends me a PM, I`m like............. Hey Tom, here`s what I did....... blah blah blah and then I sign, talk to you soon, Chris It just seems sooo many people have ZERO people skills and no interpersonal skills either. Ok. Carry on.

HI-

You make a good point, it seems geography does matter when considering problems and detailing approach.

I thought ya`ll said Yous Guys (or howerver it would be spelled) up there :D

You have my address, go ahead and swing by after Florida, lol. I need some help wasting some wax.

I have offered in person help many times to new folks asking for help or feedback on here I see that are local to Atlanta but usually never hear back from them. Hopefully they figured it out or got some help on their questions! I have even had a few detailers find me on Instagram come over to my place to try out polishers and polishes before they purchased them or call me for advice on starting a business (Not that im like a big time guru or something). Actually makes me feel good to be able to pass on the knowledge I have gained from so many on here.

I would be of the opinion that some people choose to have anonymity and protect their privacy, hence they use pseudonym names (like 90% of the Autopians in this forum) and refuse to post their geographic location to protect and hid that information, either because of identity theft paranoia or perhaps an unfortunate experience that has verified that paranoia, in which case it is a reality. If someone gives out such information, like street addresses and cell phone numbers to someone else , even in supposedly secure Personal Messaging, they may feel that they have no control of who else may access that information.
I do realize that on-line communications without face-to-face meeting of a "stranger", even a fellow Autopian, involves a certain amount of trust that some simply will not risk in this day-and-age of social media. That is sometimes hard to fathom when they are the one`s reaching out to other Autopians for detailing-related help through this media (the Autopian Forum and Private Messaging), BUT I need to realize, or perhaps more correctly, respect that they are entitled to that "anonymity and personal privacy" if they so choose.

On a related note, I have said this before, I greatly appreciate those of you Autopians who take the time to post photos of their detailing escapades and write extensive product reviews. I would hope that more car-care product manufacturers would offer FREE products for those of you that do this, as this is great PR and advertising that cannot be bought or a price placed on it`s value to the detailing customer within this forum. This influences my future purchases because of it`s truth in advertising and real-world experience from fellow Autopians when I see the end results and trust their evaluations and opinions. Truth be told, though, I am "jealous and envious" of your detailing skills and abilities that I cannot duplicate and achieve the same end results. Doesn`t mean I will not try, though.

That is a pretty valid point Lonnie. In this day and age privacy is a big deal but for most people if you have a internet foot print - facebook, instagram, myspace (old I know), linkedin etc. there is a tons of data being shared on us without us even knowing it which in itself is scary and probably even a different topic.

I think this is what makes this forum so different from other forums and Facebook groups though. Is that we all seem to have respect for each other and each others opinions and are willing to go the extra to help each other out. I am sure there are those on the forum who may not be on the same wave length for the same reasons but from what I see from the active users its nothing but friendliness and openness to helping each other and respecting individual ideas and thoughts.

Being a member of the Detailing 101 facebook group and Obsessed Garage facebook group I look at how some people speak to others on the group or their responses and people are just down right rude or jerks.

Sorry i don`t buy it .. maybe if you were part of a political forum and were nasty to others ..

I`ve been at this a long time and been working at shows for about 30 years ... and some strangers become great friends ..

when I joined the internet forums, i invited any and all to meet us at shows or even come to our Detail Weekend (yes we were first)

I have met so many people over the years, including many of members of this forum and can say that no one ever seemed threatening to me or my family

Simply putting even a vague location should be a requirement not an option ... and of course anyone is always invited to visit us :) (hot dogs with onion sauce on special occasions) :)
