What up with you people ?

I thought I responded to this post - but reading over it - I guess it didn`t post. Basically - I`d give my address pretty much to anyone who posts here. Anyway, if anyone is interested (I`m sure nobody is) I`m in Gilbertsville PA 19525.

I`ve had multiple people at my place for detailing reasons - and - nobody has been anything less than 100% cool. Maybe I`m a fool - but I don`t think thieves or robbers are looking for victims on detailing forums.

I was reading some of the post talking about frigid cold and Ohio was mentioned. I didn`t even think it snowed in Ohio! Does it even get to far below freezing?

I am thankful that I don`t live in Alaska but NW Mn is bad enough when it comes to cols. Ever try keeping your car clean at -40F! Northern MN, you always here the phrase "Ice Box of the Nation"(International Falls, MN) is always on the news for being the coldest spot in the nation. I live about 140 miles due west of there and it isn`t all that much difference.

Now you folks in the far south when it cools off to a chilly 70F you where jackets. We don`t where them here until it hits 50F, LOL? After a long winter and it warms up into the 40`s we run around in shorts and a t-shirt because it is kind of balmy after all those below zero winter days. B)

Heh heh...yeah, some areas of the US have *real* winters..not like the stuff we get here!

How is the salt/etc. usage up there? That`s the only *real* Winter Factor we have to deal with..a few feet of snow isn`t really a thing if the vehicle is properly equipped.

I`d never call you a fool, but the more serious Pro Criminals of all stripes *absolutely* use such resources all the time when doing their (incredibly in-depth) research. Saves them more time than most folks would ever suspect they put into such stuff period. Countless jailhouse interviews verify this, and those are the "incompetent ones" who got caught.

Yup.

Most criminals are opportunists. If you post pictures of your stuff and provide an address, and mention that you`re seeing family in another state next week, or post smartphone pictures with embedded EXIF information (date/time and GPS location) that shows you are currently far from home, that`s all some people need to decide to pay your home a visit.

Salt, I think we have the market cornered on the stuff. Anytime it snows and if it accumulates(no pun intended) on the highways and doesn`t blow off, usually more than say a half inch falls, then the plow/salt trucks are out. Around the cities, I should say towns, the busier intersections look just about like gravel roads. And of course when the temps warm up close to the freezing mark the salt work the best and turn everything liquid and covers everything. Of course then the temps go south and car turns white. After the first couple winters of trying to keep it clean every week took its toll. Tried rinseless washes but that isn`t fun when it is running around zero and trying to warm the garage with a torpedo heater. I gave up the last couple winters and just run it through the touchless car wash no more than once every two weeks and only if it was around 20 give or take any warmer and the streets are wet and anything below say 5F is getting a little too cold. Even though the dryer works quite well you have little time to get the door jams dry when you sit outside the car wash. I have even done the disgraceful thing and ran through the soft touch the last 2 winters once maybe twice through the winter. After a few visits to the touchless it just doesn`t seem to get the film of grime off so I did what needed to be done. It leaves very little micro marring so I don`t know what is worse leaving the film on or the soft touch. I know how to correct so I did the unspeakable.

I guess. But do you think someone would be coming over my place so I could help them fix micro-marring on their soft paint or whatever - with the intention of robbing me?

Mebbe they`re like - he has nice stuff - I`ll think I comeback when nobody is here and take some?

I dunno. I`m just naive maybe?

Lol. Reminds me of my friend who was selling a weight set on Craig`s List & had people over to check it out..He had a loaded 9mm in each pocket...

And actually on a side note, in my old house - I was sleeping and woke up to some dude in my living room. He was like "whoops wrong house"...Then it was like me in my underwear chasing him outside with an antique German dagger...

Swanicyouth- I remember the German Dagger Episode!!

Heh heh, I applaud your friend`s approach! Well, assuming he`s all dialed-in ;)

In your case (assuming you have a decent sense of what people are/aren`t OK) I`d probably worry more about them mentioning something to somebody else.

Eh, I know I come across as pretty paranoid, but...let`s just say that I have IRL experience that has informed my opinions of what`s right/not *for me*. If my level of concern isn`t appropriate for others that`s both understandable and perfectly OK by me; at least I can figure that I presented the ideas for their consideration... so many folks are simply oblivious to the predators in our midst that I don`t mind sounding a wake-up call even if it doesn`t apply.

Accumulator....I agree completely. Some aren`t comfortable sharing anything, while others share way too much. I don`t bedrudge anyone either way...it`s all about personal choice. (OK...well, maybe that`s not completely true....I don`t respect opinions of those who base their opinions on falsehoods and myths...LOL, but that`s another story).

skibik- Oh man, I can`t imagine trying to get through that without the sort of facilities I use just to get through *our* winters! Eh, I`m simply spoiled, having had heated/etc. facilities since forever...

OzzieMike- Yeah, we`re on the same page. And gee, I live in a basically "safe environment" too, nothing at all like what so many people have to deal with, yet [those experiences] did (and continue to) happen anyhow.
