What Grinds you gears??

There is abuse in the welfare system..just like western farmers abusing the ability to use public land and not paying for it. However, it is a small percentage but can add up.

Have you noticed the GOP has turned down the rhetoric on the 40% takers this election cycle?

We do need a social safety net that focuses on retraining for the new job ...but in today's economy it is mostly service jobs unless you have specialized skills.

When your garage door breaks as you're heading out to work and you have to spend 30 minutes trying to get it closed :wall

D@ng. This just happened to me this morning. 14* out with wind chills down to zer0.
Ended up just closing it manually but that leaves it down and unlocked.

I had a horrible customer service experience this weekend. Long story short, I had to get a manager involved about a price match policy and he told me that regardless of what the company's website said, he wasn't going to honor anyone else's price because he "didn't have to". Had his arms crossed the whole time and was a real smug SOB about the entire thing.

Anyway, it makes me really appreciate Autopia and other companies' superior customer service because common courtesy and manners are just not used much anymore, and it grinds my gears when people can't just have an honest conversation without being rude to others.

There's never a need for that sort of nonsense. Was the difference in pricing coming out of the managers pocket? No. Was the policy clearly stated on the stores website? Yes. Or else why would you have wasted your time going in there in the first place? Being a smug SOB is just dumb and unnecessary.

A line I've never used but heard someone else say during a crappy customer service situation was "if you don't like your job, I can help you get rid of it" - Ouch!

I was super calm about it right up until he started crossing his arms and shaking his head. I asked him if he could explain what his reasoning was and he just refused to do it. This was at Dick's sporting goods and I was trying to price match a Fitbit since I had a gift card I was going to use there. He told me he didn't consider Walmart, Target, REI, Cabelas, or Amazon to be direct competitors. I can understand Amazon, but not the rest. It also says on their website "Any local retailer" so when I asked him to explain why that wasn't more specific, he said he didn't care and just wasn't going to help me. Absolutely insane. He was living up to the store's name though!

heisenberg- Aw man, sorry you had to go through that.

I was super calm about it right up until he started crossing his arms and shaking his head...

I've had some fun with people like that, and even when it's not really fun I feel better after I've politely put them in their place- I explicitly ask them about their body-language, personal-space invasion, demeanor, etc. as if I were a psychologist doing a study. Also, it seems to tweak people like that when you ask them "and how do I spell your last name?" if it's not part of a nametag.

Heh heh, I have a standard line that includes "..I believe there is some misunderstanding here....please allow me to enlighten you as to the reality of this situation, as I believe you have misconstrued ...." ;)

And yeah, a five-minute phone call to somebody up the ladder often seems worth the bother to me even after the moment has passed and I'm less irritated.

Eh? Not direct competitors?? Ok...

HA! Bingo.

Contact the district or regional manager. That'll grind his gears.

I test drove a new Nissan once. They photocopied my license so I could drive it, but didn't return my real license. When I went back for it they refused to give it back to me. They had excuses about it being in a safe somewhere. It took me a week to get my drivers license back, even after calling the police. They were trying to get me to buy a car and knew I couldn't do a test drive anywhere else without it.
I went to the library and got an annual report for Nissan North America. All Board Members and Officers of the company are listed. I selected a few key officers to send a letter to. I found out a month later that the Nissan GM at that store had been fired.
What grinds my gears?---->Tailgaiters

Is it a local policy or national policy?

Regional. It's on their website and I asked - they are corporate owned, non-franchised. He had no authority to decide not to honor his company's written policies, IMO

Oh, I surely did. I know nothing will come of it(I worked retail for 6 years as a manager) but at least a verbal slap on the wrist is better than nothing.

glfnaz- I *REALLY* like how you handled that! And how it worked out for that GM. That was a great response to a simply awful experience, good on you for owning it.

ATM Fees...

Yeah, at least when its *your* bank dispensing *your* money. I don't have a problem with "other" financial institutions charging a fee for convenience, but these days it seems like you gotta really pay attention in order to avoid paying fees.

I don't have a problem with overdraft fees, if I [screw] up I figure that it's fair for it to cost me, at least they let me use the money instead of bouncing the check.

I hate how much work it is to get the right price from a car dealer! Its a hgorrible waste of time and these dealers are really doing themselves a disservice.

I hate to say it but I am worn out. Cant deal with this weekdays anymore, it going to suck the life out of my weekends

Same here. I'm good at negotiating but at some point it just gets tiring wasting a whole day with sales people. It's even worse when trying to buy a car that's hard to find in the first place. I spent several months looking for my current car without any mods. Although finding an impreza wrx unmolested was even harder..

Have you tried negotiating through emails with different dealers? I think that's the route I'll try next time I buy a car.
