What do you mobile guys charge????

@picus - I thought I was the only one that hated interiors ;)

I price out hourly on the low end because I am just getting started @ $20/hr with a minimum charge for 2 hours. This assures me of getting $40 no matter what.

The only variable in my pricing is like someone mentioned above how much paint correction do I need to do on this thing, when that is established w/ # of hours needed its cake from there. Tires/wheels/wells ALWAYS get cleaned and dressed, no exceptions because lets face it lots of people the first thing they see is in this order:

1. better looking paint (shiny)

1.5 cleaner wheels/tires

2. dressed tires

I also dont do ala-carte pricing, its all hourly for me. If a customer requests me just to clean the tires/wheels/, then hey I have a jack and some jack stands, no problem I jack the side of the car up and take the wheels off and go to down on the front and back sides and they get charged $20/hr with a minimum of $40 to start, I even seal the front and back sides of the wheels.

That's what I meant by the only variable is paint correction. When someone brings a car to me to get compounded/polished I always do certain things that I am sure we all do to some extent; clean and seal wheels, clean and dress wheels and tires, polish all the metal, dress all the trim, clean and wax jambs, clean and dress engine, etc.. I always tell my customs I "don't do extras", when a car leaves my place I want all parts of it to look good (except the interior haha). So unless the exhaust is in bad shape or something it's always pretty much the same amount of time with the variable being the correction.

I did ala-carte a long time ago. Now I have two package prices as a guide, but always quote based on an hourly rate. So ya... basically the only variable in my pricing is how much paint correction I will need to do on the car. I don't do interiors. I know, weird.

Same here. I'll do them on friends, family, and of course my cars, but that's it.

They can go to any of the local high volume detail shops and get a pretty darn good interior job done for alot less than what I'd have to charge. If it's not a service that I can't blow the other shops out of the water on (as far as quality), I don't do it. Interiors fit that description.

Ya I agree. Like a lot of guys on this board I will do interiors that need more protection/leather work than "cleaning". I don't have an extractor etc, so if someone needs their carpets shampoo'd or headliner steamed there are better places for that around here too. I'll definitely vacuum and clean/condition leather as a part of my service though, same as I'd clean an engine bay or polish an exhaust, etc. Luckily most of the cars I work on have pretty mint interiors, so it hardly qualifies as work.

I have a ton of respect for the few folks on this board that do serious interior work. I just never could seem to sell people on the price, since the local shops will do 90% of the job for 20% of the cash.

I have my standard menu, but as a rule quote everything out based from a minimum hourly rate. 99/100 customers over here think it's something that shouldn't cost them more than £20 for work taking 3 - 4 hours, because of all the poor quality/cheap as chips workers around.

It took a few years to get the word around that I put quality first, a hard few years too. but I now get regular customers who call and mention that they know I'm not the cheapest ( not the most expensive either though) but do a quality job.......so the best advice I think I could give on pricing is - don't under value your services. Just charge what you feel is right and deserving of your time.

No, and someone stole my D80 when I moved in November.

Its directed to the people that write up the menu of individual services with prices next to it. I want to know if any of their clients acutally upsell themselves after reading the menu. I've never seen it happen in any industry. Customers dont know why they want "xyz", they need to be sold "xyz".

:werd: I tried to sell a customer a zymol vintage wax instead of just my normal lusso oro. He asked "why charge xx more for zymol?" I explained it to him, and why it would benefit his paint, and he got it. Like you said, it's about telling them why they should have it done, and selling them on the fact that it would only benefit them, not you.

When talking to a customer, you always want to ensure it's for them, and will only make it that much better, not they need it just cause it costs $500 more and automatically makes it better.

With that said: My prices start at $30 for washes. And start at $250 for paint correction.

I used to do an a la carte type thing, but it just made customers choose less then what I thought they needed. So right now my pricing and process is int he middle of a complete overhaul.

+1 on everything, especially the bold part... I charge about $40-80 depending on the car size for interiors, which will include a wipe down with 303, glass, leather and maybe a spot or two cleaned on the carpet/upholstery.. nothing more, nothing less...

As for pricing, I also base my prices on an hourly rate of $50 and average about $400-450 for a 2-step without interior (only glass wiped down), taking about 8-9hrs.

interior work starts at 100 and is based on 60/hr, with an estimate of how much will come up and out, and how long it "should" take...if the customer agrees, then I work my butt off trying to get through it in my time frame

I just recently spend 4 hours on a completely trashed Hyundai santa fe...food, sauce, plants, soil, cokes, coffee had all been spilled all over the interior of the car and sat there for a couple years in hot AZ sun....yeah that was a fun one....LOL - the extractor water was near black and the picollo steamer was filled twice!
