Web Re-design comments/suggestions

Well, i am in the process of some overnight work on my web, and i want to grab some feedback before i get 200% into it.

Thus far the ONLY PAGES THAT WORK ARE: Home, Privacy Policy, Automotive Packages, Automotive Pricing, and Automotive Gallery. I am adding more and more functionality every min. The automotive pricing page is 50%, but you can get the idea of the basic functionality. It is going to get REALLY functional including Printing the quote directly from the page, e-mailing the quote etc...

But anyhow, i am looking to see what you all think of the layout, and the load time. I have been having *issues* with the random image on the top left, but i think that will work itself out once i get everything seemless.

The new page is located at http://www.ddetail.com/beta

The old site if you want to compare is http://www.ddetail.com

Thanks in advance for feedback

Mike

Text "To learn more about our services, use the menu on the left,

or click the buttons and hover on the image below:" is not aligned with bottom options and image.

Too much white background - choose some background color.

I will see if i can bump the text, each page is about 50 layers so it shouldn't be too hard. And no background color. It is a professional page. I had a bg color before, and it was no good. The white looks to have a bit more class or just cleaner.

:up What about the dynamic elements? did they work for you, those are what i am nervous about being non-compatable.

Oh, and how about load time on your connection speed??

well I have DSL so pages loaded fast ;)

yes dynamic elements are working for me ... although glass treatment didnt have icon on left :)

Why changing:

Old site doesn't work properly on all browsers, takes a while to load on lesser connections. had a horrible menu selection system. Notice how many more options and pages i have. Low interactivity was another issue, I coudn't do much of anything. Oh, and i didn't like the blue background.

New site: TONS more information, has alot of interavtivity, and enhanced features. will be 100% browser compatible when i finish (You folks are helping me in that battle), Simply a better design Form and Function wise.

I think it's looking pretty good. It loaded much faster than your old site (I'm on broadband). The elements you've finished are functional and it has a nice feel to it (kind of hard to describe).

I think you're on the right track :xyxthumbs

Looks good but a bit to plain..A lot better then the old site which you can tell half which was made by someone else and the blue that you added.

Yeah, the old one needed to go. It may be plain, but i think that plain is easy on the user. It has a plain feel, but a ton of interactivity options, and more are being added every day!

Like right now, i am working on the automotive prices page. It is still a little messy, but it is coming along nicely

I am going to bump this one more time since it is around a peak time. I want all of the feedback i can get from different people with different tastes, using different computers on different connections. :)

Only the first few pages work still, but it will be fully functional Including some of the more advance content (like the print a complete estimate) In about a week or so.

thanks again

112 views, and only like 4 people have responded :(

PLEASE PLEASE, even if you hate it let me know!!

OH, and also test out my automotive prices page. Let me know if it all works fine yet. I have been having some browser compatibility issues with my layers being transparent not opaque, and it looks real bad once certain buttons are clicked :(

anyhow PLEASE help me, I will even play the sad violin :sosad

Hey Mike,

Pricing works just fine for me.

Couple things...

1) Looks very clean and professional...May I ask which program you used to make this?

2) I love the little icons for each menu.

3) I would go with a more 'cut-up' look. Maybe box everything in more so it's all the same distance apart (symmetry).

4) I like the picture changing up top (keeps it real :lol ), but I would stay with a blocked off top of the page for your business name. Maybe a little thinner up top with a horizontal line separating it from the bottom.

5) Other than the title, I would stick with one font. Keeps it clean and professional.

6) The full detail protrudes through the text box given. You may want to take a look at the spacing there.

Looks great though. Please just take this as constructive criticism. Hope it helps :)

Thanks for such a through review!!! I really apreciate it. Responses:

1) the menus were made with DHTML Menu Builder V9.4, the rest i am writing myself using notepad to author, and dreamweaver as the hierarchy manager.

2) Those were a PITA to find and create in 16x16px

3)You mean like the blue border i have around the main content around everything?? Or just re-align everything so that it is all centered?

4) So if #3 was to box it in, I should add a second solid line across the layer seperating it? If i was wrong on #3, i should just add a 2 pixel solid line??

5) Isn't it all one font?? It should be! If not then i am missing something, i will go back and look over it again. Everything should be Arial

6) which page are you reffering to?

Thanks again

Looks good :up

But there are at least two different fonts being used. Most of it is Arial but some of it looks something like Times New Roman..... shouldn't be hard to change.

Some of the links like the glass treatments aren't working yet, correct?

All-in-all it looks like you've spent a lot of time putting it together and the quality of it shows.

Well, i started this site design ummm. maybe on saturday, and have spent some good time working on it daily. all in all it probably has 30 hrs in it.l

Yeah, i know the links arent working, I just havent gotten around to creating those pages. It will be 100% functional within 2 weeks.

I have some more hard DHTML interactivity to add, the site is going o be a 1 stop shop. It should be simple for someone to get on-line and get all of the necessary information to just type their name into a form and book an appt, or create a maintenance schedule etc...

Oh, and i will fix the Arial/default font issue in the am :)

3) Yeah border everything

4) Just a border like up top of autopia to separate the rest.

5) I was referring to the regular text vs. menu text

6) The what each detail entails page where you scroll over the name and the list drops down kinda deal.

Hope this helps. Looks great!

Looks good, a few things I found though, not sure if you were planning on working on them or weren't completely finish, this is just what I notice on whats up so for.

1) All this text should fit into the box obviously, and it seems like the title for the list and the list run into each other almost, they should be a couple more pixels apart, so that everything has even line spacing. That big gray dot needs some TLC too.

thatsite.jpg

2) Some of the pictures don't seem to be the best looking, or really truely show off how good your work can be.

3) A background color could be nice, just go with something very very faint, but I think it looks pretty nice as it is.

4) It seems like the picture/company name could really use a border around them, the same one that the content has.

5) The navigation seems to be in an awkward spot, either centered horizontally, or vertically, or both, would look better I think.

6) Pretty sure you said the pricing section wasn't finished, but you may want to add in definitions for what each condition means, what may be good to you, may be excelent to me.

7) The font seems sort of boring, you have something nice in the title, and something a little bit different for the menus, but it looks almost incomplete at some points, where its just plain old TNR.

8) The red text on the main page seems really harsh, red comes across as an aggressive color, should go with something softer, and align it like someone else mentioned.

All in all though it looks really nice, if your wondering about load times it's a little bit slower then other sites for me, but still quick enough. WinXPPro SP1/Cable Modem/IE6

Ok, i have taken alot of suggestions, and i have updated JUST THE INDEX PAGE... I am going to work on some of the other pages, and some of the other poblems tonight. What do you think of the new template on the index page?? Are the colors better? Is it chopped up enough?? Since i havent made up the content for the center white block, i "stole" david's autopia "Happy Holiday" image and some text so that you folks can get the general idea of it as i work tonight.
