What's the use of these grit guards? I use a wash-mit and rinse out the mit with water after washing each panel. Grit will settle to the bottom anyway, and it's not like I'm rubbing my wash mit on the bottom of the bucket when I'm re-sudsing it!
Time for me to go get an H.D bucket so I can fit in. :-?
I do not think grit guards are the end all but one of a many best practices to minimize swirls.
The idea is you rub the mitt against the grit guard and the spacing/vanes keeps dirt which can be affected by water movement from getting very high in the bucket. If you have a wash bucket with 5 gallons of water I would guess a grit guard is important than one with with much less water.
I don't even use grit guards Al. I use 8 mits and just keep changing out my wash solution. Usually go through 4+ refills on each wash. I also rinse my mits before they touch the paint again Da Rules!
You do that for every wash? I would think just rinsing out the wash mitt with a hose would be a nice alternative to a second bucket.
