Vette Adcice Please

2007 dark blue vette coupe with minor swirls. I have a UDM and plan to use Zaino ZPC Fusion with a couple of passes with a white LC pad at 5 on the UDM.

Comments, suggestions, others experiences are welcomed and sought

Try a test section and see if ZPC removes the swirls. Move the UDM very slow. If that doesn't work step up to an orange pad. If that doesn't work step up to a stronger polish.

Vette correction is best done via rotary. Your plan is not aggressive enough. Trust me, I know what works on my black C6. Try either of these two approaches:

1. 106ff with a purple foamed wool pad with slow speed and medium pressure. Foamed Wool 6.5 inch Polishing/Buffing Pad

2. SIP with an orange pad around 1800rpm and very little product. Menzerna Super Intensive Polish, Menzerna PO 83 , Mernzerna PO85RD 3.02

I was hoping Patrick would see this one. You really should take his advice on this... Patrick has been fine-tuning his vette correction and polishing technique for a long time. No need to get further input on this one: get the polishes/pads he recommends, and get after it. :)

Thanks Superbee, I actually have you to thank for introducing me to the purple pad. The finicky clear on the vette is only part of the problem. Other problems include the carbon fiber body panels that generate static when wiped and then cause everything in sight to cling to them. Yet another issue is the fact that you need to be careful wiping off polish and wax residue. Too much pressure and bam, you've created another scratch. This can be a real challenge because you need some pressure to remove the oils from the stubborn carbon fiber. My C6 does not behave like any other car I have worked on. It can be a real pain in the a$$. Here's the real kicker. After spending days and weeks perfecting the finish, don't get too close because vettes are covered in orange peel. But they do haul a$$. :D

He needs a suggestion for his UDM though.

Someone on here had success with ZPC on a PC i think with a bit of 105 mixed in.

I just polished a black vette yesterday with the rotary, white pad and Menz IP (more aggresive them ZPC) and it only cut the swirls down like 60%.....

You will get the paint nice and glossy, but you more then likely won't even touch the surface of the swirls.

Best bet with the PC is to go with an orange cutting pad and a heavier cut polish, even then you won't phase them enough but it will be an improvement.

Yeah, and they sound so amazing while doing it. I played against a new C6 the other day from a stoplight on the 60 MPH highway next to my house. I got to hear just how good they sound from the rear in a real hurry. My next car *will* be a Vette.

Yeah, I was wondering how M105 would do via PC/UDM on hard vette clear. I know a guy who has one, and I might give it a shot whenever I order the 105.

Is it true you cant wetsand out the OP on vettes because the fiberglass will just bring it back in 6 months due to flexing? I think I read that somewhere here.

I have never tried M105 on my C6 as it is such a new product. However, I have tried Presta Ultra Cutting Creme Lite and it hazed like CRAZY even with a white pad. Then it became unbelievably difficult to restore the gloss with the P/C. That's when I stepped up and learned how to use a rotary. Since then, I have enjoyed my car much more because I can finally make awesome corrections on it in case it gets marred or scratched. To answer your second question, NO. Once you sand away orange peel it is gone.

Patrick, have you used the hf rotary on your c6? I'm trying to find something to use on mine so deciding if I should try that and see how it works or borrow my friends PC and try it. I just need to do some minor work on swirls the dealer put in it.

Maklar, yes I used a HF rotary on my black C6 and it worked very well. DO NOT waste your time borrowing your friends PC. The PC is not the right tool for a C6 unless your using it to apply glazes or waxes. Even if you were able to do correction with a PC, it would take forever to restore the gloss on finicky corvette clear.
