Undecided on which exterior trim and rubber protectant to choose

I'm looking to get some products for protecting the slightly textured exterior black plastic trim, and the the exterior rubber that surrounds the exterior glass on my car. The auto parts store products I've come across have been terrible, they're greasy and will run all over the glass if the car gets wet at all. Keep in mind my car stays outside 24/7 so I'd like something that will protect the rubber and trim from the elements and last at least weeks not days. The rubber and trim are in excellent shape, so I don't need any restorers just a protectant.



I've done some looking around and heard that Black Wow seems to work really good on the plastics. I've also come across a few others that may work good on rubber trim such as Prima Nero and Aerospace 303. What opinions do you all have on these, and are these good for what I plan on applying to them? I'm open to any suggestions you all may have on other products. Also, if you could please tell me the best place to purchase these items.



Bascially I want something that will protect from the sun leave a non-greasy natural dark black look that won't run off once in contact with water.
 
The dressings I've used and really like and have lasted are 303 Aerospace protectant and Hi-Temps Bumper and Molding Renew.



I really like black wow, but it is quite expensive.
 
I like 303 Aerospace as well and I've seen it at Napa Auto and Kragen's (I've mostly used it on plastics). Black Wow seems to be holding up well (a month or two so far) since I've put it on some dark trim on a couple of cars. The small bottle of Black Wow goes a long way since just a tiny bit can cover quite a bit of surface area. Of course, I don't think Black Wow is designed for rubber trim. I could be wrong on that though.
 
I have used many products and had the same problems as many. I settled on the 303 as the best UNTIL I tried the ULTIMA. A bit pricy, but I found that I use much less product. Dry finish, not shiny unless it's supposed to be and it LASTS.
 
Most products are going to run in the rain. 303 works well, but should be wiped completely dry after the application. I really like One Grands ERV dressing. It does not get talked about much here, but it is probably the best tire dressing I have ever used. It works well on trim too.

I didn't think so either, but in the thrid picture it's shown being used on a ruuber seal.

I think I'll use something else for the rubber trim. Is 303 ok for rubber trim, and is it greasy? I'm unsure about the 303, it appears it's a general purpose for anything cleaner/protectant. What about Prima Nero? I haven't heard too much about it.
 
303 is fine for rubber trim but it will wash away. While I haven't tried Black Wow I do find it to be an intriguing product. I'm currently using Ultima Tire and Trim Guard and happy with the results.

Any reccomendations for a rubber trim protectant that won't wash off?
 
The Ultima will last through at least a few washes and depending on the type of trim even more. If it's rubber then it should last through several BUT you do need to clean the trim before applying it.

Thanks for the tips. The Ultima looks like a nice product, but it's kind of pricey. I may pick some up if I don't see anything else of interest.





What do you all think of the Sonus Total Eclipse? How well does it hold up, is it greasy and runny also?

303 is a great product, but it does disappear after a rain. I only use in on interior surfaces.



To anyone who's used both Black Wow and Ultima, any thoughts?
 
Sorry for tossing around different products at one, but I've come across another promising product. What about Gummi Pflege? I've seen that the bmw drivers really like it, but they appear to use it mostly on door rubber seals and convertable seals. I haven't seen any mentioned use of hard rubber coated seals like on exterior windshield and window seals like I plan to use it on. The window seals on my car appear to have an almost clear layer on them that makes them sort of shiny. So I don't want to use something that could potentailly remove it.





I'd also be interested in hearing which others seem to think works bettter, between BlackWow and Ultima.
 
After looking further, it appears that Gummi Pflege is more for weather strip rubber seals. Not rubber trim like I'm looking for.





Has anyone here used 1Z Einszett Vinyl Rubber Care and Protectant? What are your opinions of it? Does it leave a glossy or matte finish?

Sorry for the bad picture, but this gives you all an idea of what the trim looks like that I want to clean/protect. I plan on applying the product on the rubber seal between the windshield and roofline, and the rubber between the roof pillars and side glass.

The rubber trim between the door and the pillar, IIRC, thats plastic. You are talking about the visible trim around the top of the window, and NOT the rubber door seal? This is an ION right?



If you are talking about the visible trim. which is more like a painted plastic, Id use something like ZAIO.

Correct, it's an ION coupe. The vertical trim piece between the two doors is a hard plastic. I've changed the picture to highlight the areas I'm speaking of.
 
I love FK1 108 for textured trim, I apply it with a foam paintbrush, and buff well after a few minutes. $36/gallon, I use it on tires, interiors, seals, engines, trim, anything plastic/rubber.



However, the areas that you highlighted, I would use a sealant. Z2, Z5, ZAIO, CS, OS, UPGP, reapply when you treat the paint. Most trim dressings dont do well on harder/dense plastic like what you emphasized.

The areas highlighted are not plastic, they're rubber. The windshield rubber has a slight shiny appearnace to it, but it definately not a plastic. I once got a few drops of sealer on the side window rubber strip before, and it was a paint to get off. I don't think a polish, paint sealant, or wax will work on this.
