Truck Mounted Water Tanks

Just for anyone interested. I finally just about finished up my trailer over the weekend. I bought the Shurflo park model that runs of A/C power. All their others ran off of DC current. Anyhow it pumps about 3.3 GPM with pretty decent pressure. It has a pressure switch that kills the motor at 45 PSI built in therefore it's called an "on demand pump". I think it works great. I was going to try the gravity feed aproach ( well I did), and it didn't work as well as I had liked.

I also wanted to have water pressure similar to using a regular garden hose so this is great. I have the pump monuted on the wall about a foot and a half above the floor and run through a switch (which took a couple of trys to get right and sparks went flying!).

All I can really say is it works great. Only time will tell how long it will last. It is very quiet and only runs when your actually using water, as soon as you let go of the trigger from your hose sprayer it almost instantly has enough pressure in the hose to turn off the pump (it takes less than one second).

Gravity feed just doesn't provide enough water flow IMO.

That's all! Just for those who may have been interested in an update and follow up. Feel free to shoot me any questions.

I'd be interested in looking at your setup sometime, I live near you. I'm not turning pro, I'm just curious.

Thanks,

Charles

Sure thing. I'll send ya a pm or an email within the next few weeks and we can meet up.

I would buy a tank made just for hauling water that has a baffle and its shape is square.

There is a safety issue when you are hauling water. On a 90 gal tank that's about 720 pounds, half a tank no baffle so many ft long of a tank, you hit the brakes ? X 500 pounds, my gauss is 1/2 ton of force looking at you.

I would not recommend hauling no more then 1/2 of what your truck is rated for in weight capacity while making a living out of your truck. Why because its going to wear out your Taco in a short matter of time. Your best bet would be to get a trailer with brakes or better yet a heavy duty truck, There is a safety issue. 2. Why stress your self and your truck. 3. The time its takes to drive slow because of a heavy load loses you $ learned.

There is some knowledge in hauling (specially for a living), consulting a expert is highly recommended

Your welcome

sorry guys for not getting back to you guys, i will tommorow I promise. u get the pumps at the RV stores, they use it in the motor homes. What kind of Tacoma, i used a 35 gallon in my xtreme when i started and all my equipment fit in a 6ft bed. Anything much bigger in a 6ft bed you wont fit all your stuff. Trailer it!

here are the spes. 2.8 gallons per mintue.

12vdc

apms 7.0 max

pressure 45psi/ i dont see a modle number on the unit.

If you're using a presure washer on the tank, if you get the right one, you won't need a pump as well. Quite a few pressure washers have the ability to suck the water out the tanks themselves.

Ben

I've looked into that myself and the biggest reason I went with a pump over a new pressure washer right now is because I enjoy the ability to have regular water pressure available.

even though the pressure washer might be able to suck the water out, the pump might not be getting the proper gallons per minute it requires. Also when you stop squirting the water you will have to shut off the pressure washer cause the water will not be flowing and your pump will burn out, trust me I know about this. The best way is get the shurflo so u can stil run the rpessure washer and it will kick in and feed the pressure washer so evn if you stop your good, also shurflo can run dry. as for pressure washers best place is home depot or lowes and get the Honda pressure washer for 388 it kicks ***. Take it off the stand and hard moutn it, done!!

Googledude - my pressure washer has variable pressure so you can turn it down to tap pressure if desired.

Quamen - the Karcher I've got shuts itself off on its own if it has no water in the pump - whether it's connected to a tap or sucking out of a tank.

As regards the unit not getting the pressure it requires, I don't think they'd market the unit as being compatible with a static water source or supply the appropriate hose and filter to do so if it couldn't suck hard enough to get the water it requires.

I'm not being argumentative, but mine works fine out of a tank, doesn't burn itself to bits and saves the need for a pump which in some situations (depending on the washer you have) will be rendered totally pointless.

Ben

I will need a pump as well, I checked out the link on the shurflo pumps, i sent them the email to find out more about them.

Does anyone have this pump. How does it connect to the water tank? Does it connect to the out on the tank or do I need to put the pump in the tank?

Also what if I am not using the power washer for a few minutes do i need to shut the pump off?

Thanks

Brian

i have the pump and use it all the time. it connects outside the tank and can run dry, that is why i love it no shutting anything off. line from tank to small inlet which they supply u with to shurflo, then gardon hose connection on other side to pressure washer. ill shoot pics when im finished with my trailer hopefully tommorow
