To: All my friends up north........

About time for us to start packing and get ready to head out soon. Hopefully the power isn`t out too long and everybody makes it through unscathed.

Stay safe fellow Floridians and east coasters. Don`t try to go out and take pictures of water beading off your cars!

Be safe!

Good luck. Roads are PACKED

just started
1/2 Inch rain in 20 min
I can imagine other coast.....

Picture above reminds me of "Merlin pictures go here" with photos of the palm trees reflected in detailed-to-Autopian (Merlin)-perfection vehicles. Those palm trees may be the only standing vegetation left standing in many areas after the hurricane passes through. That`s not-so-funny.

My mind and experience goes back to Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi. ALOT of vintage and expensive one-of-a-kind vehicles were lost in that storm. Cannot imagine what this storm will do to the very large boat and yacht contingency docked and moored along the Eastern Florida coast, let alone vehicles of all kinds in this area affected by Hurricane Matthew.

I know we make light of local sever weather situations by saying "I`d never live in Wisconsin because it`s -20°F and wind chills are -40° and all the snow every year. Who would be crazy/dumb/stupid (take your pick) enough to do that?"
We say "Who builds and lives on a sandy sea coast that is subject to hurricanes that you have to rebuild every 10 years and loose everything that you have? Who would be (fill in the blank with your choice word) enough to do that?" No matter where you live, you have positives and negatives weather-wise to live with. It`s like "pick your poison"

Currently just a light rain with some wind gusts thrown in. Haven`t had anything really crazy yet. Not supposed to really hit until tonight into tomorrow though.

It`s good to know that all that emergency management training and experience didn`t go to waste.

I was in sebastian when the 2 hit us a few years ago. A cat 4 is no joke, keep your wits. During the day was cool, at night was scary, sounded like a train overhead for 12 hours.

Storm seemed to stay off shore more than anticipated, so power stayed on most of the time. Won`t know if we got any kind of damage until later today. Hope everyone else faired well.
