Tire prep

after cleaning tires in really bad condition would it be benificial to wipe them down with something like denatured alchohol or laquer thinner to "prep" them for dressings, similar to Griot's Rubber Prep?

I know rubber and petrolium distilates generaly dont mix well, but if it was only done once or twice over the life of the tire would it hurt anything?

i dont think it would hurt anything but i can get my tires plenty clean with eagle 1 a2z or, scrub with a microfiber with soap and water

What about trying a dedicated tire cleaner (e.g. Eimann Fabrik Tire Cleaner). I've been amazed at the amount of grim that oozes out of "clean" tires with a dedicated cleaner.

Stoners tarminator will strip everything off. Works better than anything else I have used. Spray a rag and never directly on tire

Doesnt this leave an oily film on the tires, or is it sprayed on before scrubbing with an APC?

The Mr. Clean magic eraser works good. I will you that instead of an APC so the wax on my wheels won't get washed away.

I keep solvents away from tires as best I can. I *have* had instances where one application of a solvent caused irreperable (if only mild and purely cosmetic) damage.

The Griot's Rubber Prep simply *works*. Clean with a rubber cleaner first (maybe with a mildly abrasive scubbing medium), use the Rubber Prep (multiple times if necessary) and the tires will be ready to dress, as good as they're gonna get.

No way to overstate how satisfied I am with the Rubber Prep, simply a great product IME.

Yea neat stuff. Stuff is very watery tho. Accumulator, do you use it in a spray bottle or just becare not to spill it?

Heh heh, I hope you didn't just jinx me there as I somehow manage to spill a lot of stuff no matter how uber-careful I am :D

I just pour it onto whatever I'm scrubbing with and I actually like the bottle's design for that. I try to use it sparingly and this works out well for me. Yeah, it *is* just like water, really thin stuff.

I use Hi-Temp's Tire Cleaner, very effective at pulling years worth of gunk and grime out of the tires while still being gentle enough for frequent use (I use it with a Meguiars Tire Brush). Tires that haven't been cleaned in a long time may require a second application.

I know some on here think it turns their tires brown or whatever, but TBH I have found that this is simply not the case *for me*.

ic. Kind of like using Rubbing Alcohol from its bottle concept.
