This is going to be an incredibly long week

It will be both good (lotsa' $$$) and bad (no sleep). One of the local TV stations (CBS affiliate) redesigned their logos, so they needed their vans buffed and waxed to remove the outlines of the old logos. They needed the two vans done by Wednesday and I am totally booked. The person I talked to asked if I could do the work at night between 10:30 PM and 12:30 AM. They would have adequate lighting for me and it would be a lot cooler. I weighed the amount I would make against the sleep I would lose and decided since May and June were so wet and I lost business, I'd go ahead and take the job. My son and I did the first van tonight (15 passenger size). Quick QEW wash by my son and once he got going, I followed with the PC and PB's PwC and once my son finished washing, he followed me with PB's EX w/carnauba. We got the first van done in about an hour and forty five minutes. No need to do the tires, fenderwells or the roofs. Just buff and wax the body. We do van number two tomorrow night and probably the 30' camera crane truck the next two nights.

Not my favorite kind of work, but it is pretty easy, cool at night and no one coming up to me while I am working and asking if I detail cars and do I do the work on site. ;)

you should tell them that you want to be featured on the 6oclock news as a business with a great concept (you know the mobile we come to you thing) I bet that after all of the work you did, they would go for it!

Cleaner waxes + PC + a helper = an easy job. I would have taken it too.

Actually, cleaner wax + pure wax. ;)

PwC does a pretty good job on mild oxidation but the dead paint sure clogs up my pads. Bought 4 more today so I have some fresh ones for this job and everything else this week.

If I had some permanent help, maybe. Right now, I have more than I can handle, even with my son helping me...and he is pretty fast. I am booked through next Saturday (the 24th) as it is. There is so much pent up demand after a wet May and June.

Sounds like good deal. How did PwC work to remove the outline or shadow left by the old logo? I love detailing at night for the same reason, no annoyances.

By the way get some sleep.

Eric-since the white paint on these vans is single stage, just removing the light oxidation took off the sign ghosting.

Here are a couple shots from last night:

Its happening here too.. weather turns good ( (90+) and I have had 3 in 3 days .. Tomorrow is a black 03 Jag sedan.. and then I am on vacation for a week .. and I have 2 bookings already for the week after I am back ..

This is supposed to be a small town ( 7000 ) with no room for a upper end car detailing. Too many doctors , too many lawyers, too much money .. too lazy = Me getting more than I expected. Some have turned into regular wash customers. They like the idea I pick up at the work site and return it. I can walk to most places in the down town business core in 6 minutes.

I ran into a snag with the big camera truck. When I looked at it in the sun, the finish didn't look too bad. Under the flood lights, I could see it was worse than I thought knowing the finish is a gelcoat, I had a bad feeling. Even my strongest stuff (Blue Moose and DACP) and a cutting pad aren't removing enough oxidation to keep the wax from hazing the finish. I have to go by my Meguiars distributor and get some gelcoat specific products and probably a couple more cutting pads. I'm going back Tuesday to finish it.

Eric-Blue Moose is pretty stout stuff. Probably a bit above DACP. I don't know if it will ever be sold though. I got some to try over a year ago and it still isn't generally available.

We also had a rainny spring in Europe and lacked business. Now the sunshine is on and lots of work coming in. That´s life and that´s business.

I really understand you as I am also doing an extra effort. I cannot tell NO to some habitual customers and clients flow is not steady. So many days I have to work really hard 15 hour/day. Ohers my employees are more than enough.

Just to say all detailers go ahead!! and do a quality job.

So, CK BM is about equal to a medium cut rubbing compound?

I worked on a boat last summer with neglected Gel coat and I found 3M PI-III ECRC to work best for the intial cut, after trying other items with the PC. I then followed with a lighter RC then other abrasives to bring out the shine. Many of the articles I have read about gel coat recommend using a heavier compunds on neglected or oxidized surfaces. Obvisously use caution, and test a small spot.

Eric-my Meguiar's distributor was already closed by the time I finished today, so I am going to stop by my QEW supplier, American RV because I know they have gelcoat specific products.

This camera truck is a huge (literally!) reminder of why I stopped detailing RVs in the first place.
