The Future of Vehicle Protection?? NeverWet Super Hyrophobic

Just recieved this email from Ross Technologies:

Thank you for your interest in our NeverWet superhydrophobic coatings. We've received an incredible amount of email and phone contact recently regarding various news articles published on our technology (over 15,000 inquiries!), and we apologize for the delay in getting back to you on your request. We've even been asked if the video demonstrations are real, so let me take this opportunity to assure you that it is completely real and NeverWet is very revolutionary!

It appears from the contact you recently made with us that you're interested in using one of our coatings for a personal application. We are diligently working on finalizing a number of our coatings in aerosol cans that can be used by end users such as yourself to provide you with the same, extreme water repelling features that you witnessed in some of our videos. At this time, these products are not yet available to the general public, as we complete our testing to bring you a product that will amaze you as much as our industrial coatings. We believe you will find our products well worth the wait when we reach the level of quality that has brought us the same level of demand from our manufacturing and industrial customers. We anticipate that you'll be able to purchase some for yourself by mid-2012. We have you on our mailing list, so you don't need to do a thing... we'll be in contact with you again when product is available for purchase!

Please feel free to monitor our web site and Facebook page (NeverWet Products) for the latest news releases on our consumer products, as well as details of products that will soon be released directly from manufacturers who have incorporated our technology into their products.

We will also be sending you another email shortly with some answers to many of the frequently asked questions we've received. Unfortunately it's difficult for us to answer every question, so we hope that these will help to answer some of the questions you have about our products and that you may have included in your initial email contact with us. We think you'll also find it helpful to learn more about our technology in general.

Anyone tried to apply this on their car? How does it look? And how durable is the film?

EDIT: According to this, the current iteration dries hazy and is only resistant to "normal wear and tear." So I guess it's not ready for long-term use on cars. Hopefully, they continue to improve this product to the point where it dries clear and flat and is extremely durable.

Even on fabrics I can see some level of difficulty - there will be absolutely no 'wicking' of moisture. You will get all hot and sticky and without the fabric absorbing the moisture which is then quite easily evaporated away... well you end up with nice clean dry clothes and a real stinker of a person underneath!

for anyone interested, this item is $20 at homedepot.com right now. Free shipping on most orders over $45. local stores should be getting it in the future months.

Kinda weird, kinda kewl. Will I be able to spray this on my wheels :)

What is their target market ?

so far it seems most people buy it for shoes/boots, satelite dishes. I would think some other uses would be gutters, showers

This reminds me of a thread i saw regarding this coating by Ultra ever dry. people that tired it said it didn't look good on paint. I remember him doing a test on a red tool box and said that it made the paint not look good at all but did do what the youtube vid did as far as repel. It was also said that a strong all purpose cleaner would take it off but I don't know... If this stuff is different and can be applied to paint this would be incredible. This is the link of the vid it reminded me of.

So far disaster with this product.I tried spray painting my mailbox and although step one went on beautifully I had a hard time spraying a fine coat when it came to step two. I could not avoid acloudy appearance after spraying step two as directed. I had to remove it all with mineral spirits I would not spray this item on clothing or shoes. Keep this away from anything automotive related until you master the learning curve.

My understanding is that this product will NEVER dry perfectly clear and will always leave behind some cloudiness or haziness to it. I bought some three days ago and plan on playing with it this weekend.

Definitely let us know your results. The cloudiness I had was simply too much to be acceptable. I'm wondering if using one of those trigger attachments may make a difference in the application. :nixweiss:

So I tried out the NeverWet today on my kitchen drain board. I found it easy enough to apply and it certainly seems to work. The texture after it is dried is a bit rough even though the drain board is smooth. (It kind of reminds me of sandpaper.) I don't think this would be suitable for any place on the outside of most vehicles except maybe textured bumpers for off road vehicles. You could probably use it on certain areas under the hood, though I'm sure heat would be a concern. Still, I bet it would hold up on certain areas (i.e. frame rails, various bottles, battery tray, etc.)

Has anyone used this on any clothing yet? I know it is a car care website, but I wonder what it would do for my snowmobile bibs. If it makes the fabric real stiff or rough, it would probably tear the seat up after a while. Only plus side would be never EVER getting wet which is a nice thought.

I agree with Bill. You want to know why the clothes they spray are white? Because you can't get by the cloudy haze this product gives. It's got an extremely rough feel and appearance is horrible. If you sprayed this on your clothes, they would become unbreathable. I cant imagine the sweat you would have. I've thought of everything that I could possibly use on this. It just wasn't worth keeping and I took it back to Home Depot for my $$ back.
