:idea In order to set an example, how about for each hack or attempted hack, 2 fingers are chopped off so it would be harder to peck at the keyboard? :D

Sort of like a sprinkling of Saudi Arabian justice.

Those computer dorks would think long and hard before trying that again! :lol

Do the crime....do the time or in this case let the punishment fit the crime. If not fingers removed then they should be made to repair all damage, compensate lost money that could of been made while the site was running. Also pay for all normal costs that the website owners pay on a daily basis to keep the site up and running and be made to sit in a public place, like a shopping mall or Microsoft convention with a sign aroud their neck that says..."I was busted for hacking"

There's plenty of porn out there to be looked at, and yet they choose to hack a detailing site. :D Bummer. I hope Dwayne can get everything back up and running with minimal effort.

I really enjoy both DC and Autopia and have learned a ton off both. Many of us participate in both sites. There are always going to be some differences of opinion about what is acceptable to post and disagreements with the moderators over "questionable" stuff like the issue Greg has with his link post at DC. We are a wide group of people with individual personalities, values, goals and beliefs who share a common love of detailing, but friciton is going to occur at times, no matter what. Good communication is the only way to deal with it. My heart goes out to Dewayne for having his hard work interferred with and polluted, espescially after just coming through a very stressful time with his dad being ill. It must seem a great personal violation to have some ******* do that to you....apparantly just for the sake of showing people that he can. The sheer malevolent maliciousness of it just turns my stomach.

Not back just yet, but here's an update from Dwayne on their homepage--

Dear Detail City members and guests of Detail City,

On August 22, 2005 we had a visitor to Detail City that decided they were going to hack into our forum software and spread their hate-filled political message. In an effort to prevent this from happening again in the future, Detail City will be under construction to undergo upgrades to our forum software. Downtime should not be longer than 24 hours. During this time, we will also officially begin our Detail City redesign that we have been promising our loyal DC members. To those of you that miss the shoutbox and chatroom, you are in for a treat. Those are some of the first things on our "to do list".

I, on behalf of all of us that work behind the scenes at Detail City, would like to apologize for this unexpected downtime. For many of us, Detail City is an important part of our day where we meet with friends, share ideas and spend time talking and learning about fine auto detailing as a hobby or as a profession. I assure you that Detail City will be back just as soon as we can bring it back safely and securely.

Happy detailing,

Dwayne McPeeks

Owner, DetailCity.com
