The Big One

When I read the thread title, I thought it meant

Absolutely stunning!

One of my clients in the past had a 250GTO in its infancy stages of restoration. I laughed when I heard a shell in nice shape ran a few mill...They weren't kidding.

Beautiful work as always, those are the pics we have been waiting for!! Now I can't wait until you do the rest of the collection so we can so more pics!!

This thread needs to be made a sticky!!!

I don't know what else to say Todd... I just don't know where to start but... I believe you're going to be the next Paul Dalton... Acutally the Todd! How does working with a 4" pad feel compared to using a 6.5" pad on the rotary? Did you feel that you needed the 4" pad more often than the 6.5"? Why did you choose to use the Purple wool instead of a Orang pad?

Nevertheless, great job on the cars!

Thanks again for the compliments. Next time I will schedule a RandR day and we will be sure to hook up! When I got back to Orlando, it was 27 C, so that is what I am used to...

-20 C is a little out of my range. Like I said, I thought of you when I was up there, but never had the time to try to reach out, next time we will get together for sure!!!!

Thanks for the info TH0001!!!

I am with you on the sameness, but for me those are just BMWs that I get to detail too much of. Hey, it could be worse!

NP. It could be MUCH worse, hell remember the minivan days... (8 months ago for me...)

I will sell my 1st born, a non-vital body part and my soon to be wife for that Cobra Daytona

I will say that I have always been a Chevy fan when it comes to domestics, but I did fall in LOVE with Daytona. Seriously one of the best looking, coolest cars in the world, IMO.

Thanks Sean. What about the 250GTO they found outside a highschool autoshop in the 1980's that the highschool just wanted to get rid of. I think they sold it for a couple hundred dollars and made the owner pay for shipping, lol.

Thanks!!!!! As far as the 4 inch pads, I am a HUGE fan of them, and feel its so nice to have the control to get into the real tight areas. I never have used 6.5' inch pads on the rotary (I did try, didn't like them). I usually use the 7.5 inch mushroom capped pads in combination with the 4 inch pads to cover my bases.

I find them very easy to use.

I think to get paint perfect, you need to knock out the defects quickly and remove them. Usually this requires "cutting" the paint to make sure no little stragglers are left behind. The first combination I grab is usually SIP/Orange which is very middle of the road and lets me gauge the paint right away.

If SIP/Orange removes 90 percent of the defects, but leaves behind the deep ones, then I will step up to SIP/purple foam (I don't like the yellow pads so I leave them out for the most part). The wool runs cooler and cuts much faster. Worked long enough, the marring it leaves behind is so minor that it corrects out quickly. If this doesn't work, then I will step up to a compound and full wool to knock out the deep then work my way back down.

I have found the purple wool pad to be very effective and quick will defect removal and finish out pretty good (compatively speaking of course).

Thanks. Yes some pictures where taking on the tripod (most of the F40 pics, for example) but most of the time, I didn't have the time to slow down and set up pictures. There was always work to do.

Also, I don't know how to photograph inside, as most, if not all of my Florida shots are outside. I'll get better though... Outside, I use manual mode. Inside, I either left it in auto with the flash off (because in manual I would have had to open the shutter speed so much that pictures would have been blury) or tried some manual settings on the tripod.

I didn't mean to sound like a jerk Todd. ;)

Was the garage at least heated? If not, I would have def. bought more halogens just to use at a heater for me.:faint:

Gosh, I love this Faint smiley.:faint: :faint: :faint: :faint:

OUTSTANDING WORK.........and a pretty cool collection  I don't know if this is a compliment or not, but Paul Dalton just lost some business in the UK if your name goes overseas!

If you need some help on the next job..............

How was taking all your gear and supplies on the plane.

Thanks again for showing a very cool collection.

If you can say, I'm curious to know whether the owner collects them for pleasure or for their value and profit. That was simply stunning. I can't wait to see more(I understood it to be you were going back?) It was like, there's a GT! And then, hey there's another! And on and on. Too bad you didn't have more leisure time but it sure looks like you gave the owner his moneys worth.

Awesome work Todd! Definitely an amazing collection and great knowledgeable guy to bring them up to and past their potential. Just a quick question but did they wipe down the under carriage of these cars after having them out in the snow? One of my customers who's a collector does it if his cars see snow or any amount of salt and he says that it helps from undercarriage rust. Once again, awesome work!

Todd, Again great work! I just showed all these details to my father and he was ASTOUNDED by your quality of detailing. He has heard a lot about your details from me but he never expected what i was saying, "Miracles" (Sorry for using your word paul lol). Anyway, as i was showing him the pics he was looking at the other cars (along with your details) and he was saying HOLY SH!!T the HOLE time. He told me he had the chance to buy a few cars similar to these (none of the ferraris or maseratis or anything that expensive but i think he said mdx or something like that). Anyway, that Fiat is just amazing. Just working on a piece of history like that is AWESOME! I think it is awesome that you are so good people from different countries are getting you to detail there cars.

That info helps so much! It's nice to see how you think throughout the process and not just go straight to the final step. I never thought about using the purple wool pad with SIP, i alway have used the orange pad or yellow pad, and I've found the yellow pad hard to control sometimes, but I shall give the Purple a try. So You've never use the 6.5" that often, does it still take you a long time to finish polishing the car and do you know if it's easier to burn the paint relatively to the 6.5"? I know the 6.5 outside diameter travel's faster.

Again thanks for the info Todd. Can't wait to see what you have in the future.

This one thread i earmark for future work. Talking to a Ferrari owner and maybe get my dream detail to do soon! Thank you Todd!.........:bow
