The Big One

Sorry to vent on your thread Todd, but why is it people seem to have to know how much you made on this venture?? I think that's private info between the owner of the collection and the one detailing.....why does it matter anyways?

No matter what Todd charged, the owner DEFINITELY got his money's worth! Todd, you're obviously one of the best detailers in the world. It's nice to see that your skills are being appreciated. I look forward to viewing pics from your next trip up to the great white north.

From the looks of the pictures, the owner is a cool guy too. It's nice to see cool people be successful in life.

Very impressive work Todd! How the heck did you manage to get away with transporting all your gear (liquids especially) into Canada?

I am flabbergasted. That's really an amazing collections of cars. The work done on them it's truly spectacular :bow

Congratulations!

Now I have to stop drooling somehow....

That is just a flabbergasting collection, and some of those cars incredibly unique (like that "E-Type" Fiat :p). Quite an honor to be trusted with that stable. Great work!

Thanks Setec. The Fiat was amazing, pictures don't do it justice. Imagine that car on the streets in 1953 with Marliyn Monroe behind the wheel. Just awesome!

Awesome work my friend, looks like your book for the next 10 years, when other owners of great collections see and hear about your master skills. They all going to book you ASAP. Soon you will be on TV with your own show! and enjoying it too. Also you look like a frozen Floridian out of place on that last picture. Always great to see your work......:bow .......Angelo

Keep your fingers crossed about the show, a couple offers have came in... :secret

Thanks Angelo!

Exactly. That is how I picked up a few of my high end clients. Because I washed one Lincoln, I picked up a collection of classics myself.

I treat every customer like they know a King....

That is one thing that I love about this job, you never know who will call you, or who knows who...etc...

I read a good book, well, on the last chapter.

It'd called:

Little Black Book of Connections

6.5 Assets for Networking your way to rich relationships

By Jeffrey Gitomer.

I recommend it. It talks more about what was just highlighted..

Thanks for the recommendation. I always read EVERYTHING recommended to me. The day we stop learning is the day we stop living, IMHO. Where I can I pick this up, Borders?

Amazing, that is all I can say. The quality of work you show is remarkable. Simply the best ever time. As far as the money issue, who gives a s*!t. I would give anything just to touch these car letalone detail them. Wet sanding a 17 million dollar car, haha that is awesome.

LOL, if you had the chance to wetsand a car like that and turned it down, you would only be cheating on yourself. Thanks for the compliments red!

Todd - congratulations on completing that unbelievable request for your services. That is amazing work and it looked like the shop conditions made it a little more comfortable (personal mechanic and other helpers included - cool). Thanks for sharing that with us.

I bet it was good to get home!

My pleasure on the sharing puck, it was fun to do and it was great being surrounded by absolutely great people!! I was GREAT to get home (I missed my 3 year old and wife terriblely).

Do you know how many times I said "Oh My God" the entire time I kept scrolling down?

Seriously, congratulations on that gig. That collection is simply amazing... all those cars under one roof? or several roofs?

Kudos,

Mike

Thanks Mike, probably not as much as I said it while I was detailing. Seriously though, I wasn't really impressed by the collection because the work I had to do didn't let me view at as anything but work. I know its funny to say your not blown away by the pinnacle of automoblia (the 250 GTO) but I wasn't. When there is work to do, its must be treated professionally. So at the time it was just work.

When I got home and reflected what I just did is when I actually smiled. This might sound funny, but I am just as happy working on a minivan as I am an eight figure car. It makes no difference to me professionaly, as I am going to take the paint to the highest level possible. However, the nice cars are more enjoyable to photograph!

Looks like maybe a payment in hand????

LOL, nope. I don't know what was in that reciept, probably for the socks the owner had to get because I laid my on the halegons and they went up in flames (true story, I'm from Florida, we don't wear socks, we wear flip flops...

This is the best C&B I have ever read and seen! That is one hell of an excellent collection. I can't wait to see what else he has for you in the future.

Thanks Ryan. I got your call lastnight, but then my phone died. I'll let you know whats in the future when I get ahold of you.

I love your talent and these details for sure. :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :bow :bow :bow

Unfortunately I like new cars and don't get impressed by older classics much.

Must come from my dad. He is an antique fanatic.

But I am very happy for you that you are able to this at this level.

How long have you been detailing professionally?

Can't wait to hear about your new advanture.....

Thanks Wade. The owner is a VERY cool guy, I mean beyond cool. What kind of guy takes you out in his F40 and does donuts in the snow, and giggles like a kid while doing it. He is a serious car guy, and a very down to Earth, geniune good person.

Thanks for the very kind words!

Excellent work!!! Beautiful cars..

except that family lambo, that thing is hideous.

LOL, thanks L33. The lambo has to been seen to be appericated, and even then it might take some getting used to. Eitherways, its a front engined V12 with room for 4.

Thanks David. I set the owner up through autogeek and he ordered and purchased the supplies on my recommendations. I smuggled up my Zaino though...

Just wild! What does the owner do to afford these marvelous toys ?!?

Thanks stone. He is a hard working guy who enjoys life and made some smart decisions. He is also self made and totally down to Earth.

You should have detailed the C150. BTW, one pic still shows the aircraft registration.

Thanks RJones. Problem fixed!!!

No tripod on these pics?:tumblewee

NONE of them look like ANY of the pics you do in Florida...

Hey! Give that guy a break man!

Being a self made Billionair doesn't make you a decent photographer! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks tdekany! I'm a fan of new cars, but honestly, it was nice to have a changed. I have detailed so many new Ferraris, Lamboghinis, ect... That it was seriously nice to get for a change and challenge myself on a new level in different ways. I get bored quickly and am so hungry to improve myself that if I don't keep reaching new heights and learning along the way, I become disinterested. I guess I have OCD, but I have some new challanges in the works.

As far as long as I have I been detailing professionally, its kind of a tricky question because of how you define professionally in this profession. Many pros have 20 years experience, but its more like 3 months experience x 80!!!

But to answer how long I have been getting paid, since I was 16 and posted wash and wax flyers all over my neighborhood for 15 dollars a pop and spent long nights with my father, polishing all the chrome on his hot-rods. Obviously, my idea of detailing has changed dramatically in the last couple of years, since finding MOL and autopia. However, it changes dramatically every month as I look for new challanges.

As a sole source of income, for about 7 months. Thats when I offically formed a business and put my heart and soul into this...

welcome to calgary, you came for a warm week, we had a chinkook :D

And nex time you are in town, let me know... ohh and if you need a hand im free lol

I missed the chinkook, lol. It never got beyond -12 or so, for a day (I think Thursday) then back to -20 until I left. It finally warmed up on Sunday, but I was on the jet back to the USA by then. I was thinking about shooting you a PM while I was up there, but had limited access to the internet and ZERO free time accept the VH concert.

Thanks. Yes some pictures where taking on the tripod (most of the F40 pics, for example) but most of the time, I didn't have the time to slow down and set up pictures. There was always work to do.

Also, I don't know how to photograph inside, as most, if not all of my Florida shots are outside. I'll get better though... Outside, I use manual mode. Inside, I either left it in auto with the flash off (because in manual I would have had to open the shutter speed so much that pictures would have been blury) or tried some manual settings on the tripod.

I also resized them before uploading them to photobucket, which seemed to cut out the sharpness a little. I thought some pics, like these two came out pretty good though?
