Hi all, I was referred to this forum from BMWM5.com. I love detailing my cars, and am an enthusiast, but need expert advice from you all experts. From what I understand, polish gives the shiine, and wax gives the protection. I want to know, regardless of time and effort ( I am willing to give all the time and effort necessary), what will cleaner will clean and prep the paint the best, and what products will give the best possible shine, and best possible, longest lasting protection???

I currently use Meguiar's Medallion premium paint cleaner, then the #7 show car glaze as the polish for the shine, and then the Medallion Premium Paint protection wax for the protection. From the Meguiar's products, Gold class wax gives better shine than Medallion, but Medallion gives longer and better protection. But thier #7 polish gives the best shine from all their products, even better than Gold class, so if you use # 7 for the shine, then, might as well use Medallion for the protection, as I have never seen anything outlast that, it keeps the water beading on my car for more than 6 months! I usually do the three step process once a year, and reapply #7 and Medallion 2-3 times a year. I want to know your opinions, thoughts, experiences, whether you agree or disagree.

I heard that Pinnacle Soverign gives the most marvelous shine and liquid like glimmer on red and black cars, but doesnt last that long. Could i use this, followed by Medallion Wax for the durable protection?

All I want to know is what is the best combination of products to use for the best possible prep, shine, and long lasting protection, and in how many steps should this be done, and how often each step should be done per year? Thanks alot!!!!! Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!!

gq, it will helpful for you to know that #20 and Medallion PP have cleaners in them. What this means is that when you apply your #7, it essentially removes it which means you wasted time, product and will not get the results you thought you would have. You can put a wax over those, but don't use them in combination with #7. If you want to use Souveran or P21S, #7 is a good choice to use. If you are looking for longer protection check out Klase, Blackfire, and Platinum. By the way the medallion paint cleaner works very good.

You have found one of the major tricks to a great shine. Using a glaze like IHG, Meg#7, Mothers sealer glaze all have oils that will enhance your shine. To preserve this shine a carnauba wax without cleaners will help to protect and prolong the shine.

I feel a great shine starts with paint prep. You did not mention claying which I feel is a must once are twice a year. All the other steps are easier after claying. All polishes, glazes, waxes sealants go on and come off easier after claying not to mention the great smooth surface claying leaves.

One of the challenges for a polymer sealant is to try and match the great shine one gets with a oil base glaze topped by with a carnauba. We have learned that these type of glazes often remove the polymer sealant preventing two from working together. The search goes on....

Welcome and good luck

Again it depends what your after.

A sealant last longer, but a glaze and wax gives a better shine.

If you dont mind keeping it topped up (and some on here dont by any means ;) ) then I would go with the glaze and wax.

BUT ... beauty is in the eye of the behlder and everyone likes 'their' type of shine best :)
