Subaru WRX STi PPP (lots of pics)

This was Saturday's project!

A friend of mine's WRC blue WRX STi PPP. He got it six months ago and said he handn't done anythng to it other than wash it once a week. The previous owner obvioulsy didn't know a thing about detailing because the paint wasn't in great shape - swirled to buggery was an understatement, as you can see in the pics:

After Sonax Gloss shampoo and Clay Magic blue:

The paint was really hard to correct. Whether this is trait of Subaru paint I don't know (see my thread here!) but after trying every pad I had we eventually ended up using:

#83 on a Megs burgandy pad (x2)

#80 on a Sonus DAS green pad

VM on a Sonus DAS blue

EX-P on a Sonus DAS blue

CMW on a Sonus DAS blue

The paint wasn't perfect by the time we'd finished, but you have to look pretty hard to see the swirls we couldn't get out.

Wheels were cleaned with Muc-off wheel cleaner and waxed with Hyperturismo's Wheel Wax.

Tyres cleaned with Muc-off and dressed with Megs Endurance High Gloss.

Wheel wells cleaned with Autoglym Machine and Engine Cleaner.

Windows got Autoglym Glass Polish.

All exterior trim (not that there is much) got CMW.

Interior got Autoglym Interior Shampoo and Vinyl and Rubber Care.

The finished article (in no particular order):

I really like this one, espeially the way the trees are reflecting off the silver letters

BEAUTIFUL work Ben!!! :xyxthumbs

Did you get a lot of micromarring / hazing with the #83 and Meg's cutting pad?

Suprisingly no. I was reluctant to go to the burgandy pad with a PC after having read on here that it can cause considerable micromarring, but to be honest we didn't really have anythig to loose. We could have actually gone straight to a LSP after using it with the #83 but I wanted to use #80 to bring out a bit more gloss and hopefully subdue some of the marks we couldn't get out.

The orange, green and blue pads are Sonus DAS and the yellow and burgandy are Meg's. I really like them all, especially the green DAS which I find follows the contours of a car really nicely.

Great car, great colour and great work :xyxthumbs

How long did that take to complete all those processes, jst out of interest?

Well there were two of us working on it at the same time (only one PC though) and it took nine hours between us, so I guess on my own it would have taken 14/15 hours. Would have been quicker with a rotary but we didn't have one so the PC had to do!

Good job :up

Your Sonus orange looks to be suffering the same fate as mine !

Yes it's on it's way out and it's only been used on two cars! Kind of shows how much weight you need to put behind it when trying to correct serious paint defects with a PC!
