Adopt a shelter pet!
In my unheated garage I have a big wood storage cabinet (6ft high, 2 feet deep, 2 1/2 ft wide) where I keep my detailing stuff and very year I have to empty out the top half where I keep all my waxes and polilshes, and box up all that stufff and haul it all into the house to keep them from freeziing. It's a sizeable chore what with finding boxes and a place in the house to store stuff but I can't have those 5 gallon containers of Poorboys stuff freezing up!
Yesterday I'm in the garage looking for an extension cord and I ran across one of those magnetic engine block heaters laying unused in a drawer. The idea struck me that this might be capable of heating my wax cabinet.
I found a piece of steel about 8" square to attach the magnet to and which would heat up and raditate more heat into the cabinet, plugged the heater in and put it on the middle shelf of the cabinet.
This morning it was 0 degrees outside, 18 degrees in the garage and 44 degrees in the top half of the cabinet where I keep all the waxes/polishes.
It appears that the old unused block heater will be an inexpensive (get one new for about $30) and, most importantly, be a safe way to heat all my waxes and polishes. Now I'm a happy detailer with all my waxes and polishes safe and close by for when I want to crank up the kerosene heater and wax the truck..... again!!
