Still getting marring etc with strict wash routine

FPII. I love 85RD, don't get me wrong... but no matter what your paint (soft or hard), if you take the time to do numerous applications of FPII, you'll get the best gloss attainable with an abrasive polish. It just takes time. And the harder the clear, the more time and applications it'll take.

Got some time to kill? Grab a zero bite pad and some FPII. Prep a section of your hood, and do five or six applications (start to finish... apply, buff, break down, remove) of FPII. Each application should take about two minutes, at least. You won't believe the gloss you'll have.

Soooooooo if you only had light washed induced marring on a soft clearcoat (i.e., you're washing to autopean standard, so what's on there can't be avoided), and you only want to do 1 application of something with 4 passes (i.e., north/south, easte/west, north/south, east/west, done), would you better off using FPii or 106?

FPIi may look better after several applications, but if you only wanted to do 1 on a white pad, is 106 a better choice then?

Yes, if you can get the 106 to finish down well. If the paint is too soft, 106 won't finish down well at all. I've had it not finish down on Subaru, Honda, Porsche, Bentley (black), and jet black BMW paint. But when it finishes down well, 106 isn't beaten by many products in the gloss department.

I would use UF over 106, though, unless I was working on a really hard clear. UF will finish down well no matter how soft the paint, it's fast, and very easy to use. 106 can be finicky sometimes.

Once you try UF, you 'll probably find that your 106FF(A) bottle will start to collect dust on the shelf.

Interesting - I've had no problems with 106 on soft clears (black g35 and bentley)

Keep using it, and eventually you'll have a problem child with it. At least, with the FF version. I haven't done that many cars with the FA version, and I haven't had one that didn't finish down well with FA yet.

Before Menzerna released the Ceramiclear rated polishes to the public, one of their concerns was that people would have problems using it on softer clear coats and have a fit about it. For the most part, that hasn't happened, but there are certain clears that the Ceramiclear menz polishes just won't play well with. But then again, there's also certain atmospheric conditions that SIP (and sometimes 106FF) won't play well with, too, so go figure, eh?

When I was really having some problems getting SIP to work, I was really feeling bad about it... RyDawg stepped in and said he was having the same problems with it occasionally. Made me feel *much* better. :D I have just about three years of working with Menz's ceramiclear polishes now, and they *still* will put up an aggravation or two.

It would be great to find that FA works well on the really soft stuff. I wish I would have taken pictures of the mess that FF left on the ones it didn't work on. At the time, I was too embarrassed to take pics of the carnage.

Supe,

Remember we used 106FA on Dougs Porsche and it worked fast and very well? I like FA over FF. I've had a few problems with FF and Filling when I did not work it long enough.

Cheers,

GREG

I'll keep that in mind - however, I've used it several times and had a perfect outcome each time.

However, atleast now if something ever happens, I'll know why it isn't working, thanks :D

Yeah, we used your bottle of FA, cause I couldn't get my FF to finish down on it, and we were out of UF! FA still has yet to *not* work on anything we've thrown at it... At least, that I'm aware of.
