Steve Irwin, Crocodile Hunter is dead

Beat me to the post Scott.

Definitely sad news indeed. I never imagined him going out this way. No one is invincible.

I read that story on Yahoo at about 3am this morning and it was very sad news to hear. He was definitely an icon who will be remembered.

I agree that I would have never imagined it to be a stingray to kill the guy who wrestled crocodiles. I can't imagine the pain of being barbed by a stingray through the chest into the heart...

:(

When I first saw it, I thought it was a joke but I did verify it by searching Google. I got a kick out of watching him and the crocs.

RIP Steve

I'm going to step out and say, "I saw it coming".

Sorry, but he left behind a wife and two kids who will never have a husband/father due to his extremely risky (and many times stupid) profession.

Further, I never did agree with him waving his kid in front of the croc.

Sorry, I'm going to step out and say, "That seems a pretty graceless statement for a young guy just out of college." :(

Did you make the same bold statement as Dale Earnhardt careened off the wall? Did you show the same lack of sympathy towards Ayrton Senna for choosing an extremely risky profession? We could get into a similar dissertation regarding the appropriateness, in your eyes, of any number of professions and the inherent risk, from race car drivers, to boxers, to firemen, to our modern volunteer soldiers, etc, etc.

Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, and heaven knows I am one of the most "bottom line guys" you will ever meet, but there is a time for grace and dignity, and this is it. Your statement lacked any semblance of grace, dignity, or for that matter, class.

:werd: Well said, and I totally agree

It doesnt matter if you can "see it coming" or not. It's downright sad that this man passed away. Just because his profession was dangerous and had a love for something so risky does not make his death any less tragic or sad, he deserves the same respect any person who passes away deserves.

And now to the comment made below mine "but he did push the envelope quite far."

What is happening to Autopia? Drug addicts push the envelope everyday, alcoholics, depression, smokers, military personel fighting for our freedom...Pretty sad guys..no one deserves to be criticized, especially in death - - who are we to pass judgement

Pretty low and bad thread to decide to be "out of the box" - - keep those statements to yourself I say...

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Irwin family and friends...

yeah maybe so but I think what Sean was saying (even though I don't speak for him) was "You can only tempt fate for so long."

I agree it is quite sad especially for his family but he did push the envelope quite far.

I hope he was insured properly.

RIP in Croc Hunter :(

We Aussies have lost a great Ambassador. RIP Steve Irwin.

The only small consolation is that he went out doing what he loved.
