Steve Irwin, Crocodile Hunter is dead

RIP Steve!

Police Officers put their lives in more danger more often and aren't even appreciated in many cases.:(

This reminds me of the guy who lost his life studying bears. Yes, the job was dangerous but he did what he loved and that was all that mattered.

Steve Irwin was an ambassador to the animal kingdom much like Marlon Perkins was and he was just as respected by his peers and fans alike. It's going to be tough not seeing him on Animal Planet, but there will be someone who will share his same zeal and passions much like do on Autopia.

RIP, Mate.

Meh, you too fast. I was about to mention that episode.

RIP Steve "Croc" Irwin :(

RIP Steve! I hope I get to go out doing what I love most. If you have to go early, there can be no better way to go. God Bless, and see you on the flip side bro!

Sorry, I'm going to step out and say, "That seems a pretty graceless statement for a young guy just out of college." :(

Did you make the same bold statement as Dale Earnhardt careened off the wall? Did you show the same lack of sympathy towards Ayrton Senna for choosing an extremely risky profession? We could get into a similar dissertation regarding the appropriateness, in your eyes, of any number of professions and the inherent risk, from race car drivers, to boxers, to firemen, to our modern volunteer soldiers, etc, etc.

Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, and heaven knows I am one of the most "bottom line guys" you will ever meet, but there is a time for grace and dignity, and this is it. Your statement lacked any semblance of grace, dignity, or for that matter, class.

Sorry if I have offended you Sam, certainly not my intentions.

I didn't follow either Earnhardt's or Senna's death at all, so I cannot comment. I also don't care to comment on any of the other professions you mention, but yes, there are plenty of risky positions out there, maybe some far more dangerous than that of Steve Irwin.

In any event, I did withold the "Rest In Peace" or "You will be missed" note, but I think that goes without saying here. I, of all people, would never wish death on anyone, even the crazy carachters on the road who find it soothing to pull out in front of me or cut me off :D.

Steve Irwin will be missed (maybe not by me), but in any event, his death was tragic. I cannot even imagine being struck to death by a stingray and he certainly had some brass ones to be in the same vicnity as them.

Again, sorry if I came off as a pr1ck.

Being that he was a conservationist, director of a zoo, and more, we can all agree whether he affected us directly or not, he did make a difference in this world to many. I think a lot think of him as "just that crazy guy on the tv show," when in reality he has done a lot more for nature and people then most will realize. His accomplishments and zest for life should not be overlooked. My best wishes go out to especially his wife and two kids he has left behind. May he RIP!

Eh...I can't imagine getting nailed by a car turning in front of me while skating or having a heart attack in the middle of sex is really all it is cracked up to be, even though those are a couple of my favorite activities. All in all, I'd rather go in my sleep, early or not. :nervous2:

Did you hear they had to pull Steve Irwin's line of sun care products off the shelves?

Apparently they don't protect you from harmful rays.

Aaron, at the risk of sounding cocky....keep your disrespectful jokes to yourself...I dont know if your looking to get a laugh out of them, but you're making yourself look like a jerk with your crikey joke and now this.

I think you miss understood the crikey. let me find you a quote of steve irwin himself.

"Even if a big old alligator is chewing me up I want to go down and go, 'Crikey!' just before I die. That would be the ultimate for me."

He went doing what he loved. What more could a man ask for. I was't being crass with the crikey. I simply did not explain the quote behind it.

as for the joke. Meh.

Compared to the 'chops I have seen on another board, that joke is pretty mild to say the least. :nervous2:

Very well said. His way of intoducing the world to wild life in order to save them may not be appreciated by everyone, but his work is commendable. I always enjoyed watching him. He will be missed by millions. RIP Steve Irwin

It's probably just me, but the whole "RIP" thing never seems like the warmest way to say bye to someone who's passed. I always thought that acronym was reserved for bad 80's horror flicks. Just an observation.

What's better than wishing someone may rest in peace? They've already died, it's not like you're wishing death on them. I know I sure as hell (maybe not the best word useage here) want to rest in peace when I'm gone, and I wish the same for my loved ones.

What is stands for is, of course, fine. I'm just saying that the acronym itself, "R.I.P.", in my mind, doesn't seem like the most heartwarming sentiment. It's no big deal. I'm not the least bit offended or anything. I just think of "RIP" as something more for haunted house cemeteries or maybe tattoos or something.

If you send a condolence letter to someone whose friend or relative died, would you actually write "R.I.P." in it?

He was a good man despite other people's opinions and I enjoyed watching him as he grew through his career; My sincere condolences to his family--it must be hard....

Yeah I totally know what you mean... it sorta reminds me more of Halloween than funeral. I think it's just the R.I.P. acronym. I would write "may he rest in peace" in a condolence letter, but R.I.P. sounds a little Hollywood now that I think about it.
