Spray on Wax?

Spray waxes can be an excellent addition to your regimen. Not really stand-alone products IME.

Reflections is one of the best ones out there. FX is also a great spray wax. They can both be used like a QD (wipe on/wipe off/no drying needed).

In fact, I rarely use a QD anymore as these two act as a speed detailer and wax booster. Reflections has more of a carnauba look (although it's purely synthetic) than FX. FX has a bit more bling. Both are more accurately termed spray sealants since they're both polymer synthetic.

Can be used after washing (with most water removed) or dry. *I* prefer dry.

Haven't tried UQW but have UQD. Nice detailer/sealant but prefer the Mothers duo for looks and durability.

My problem with UQW is that I heard Meguiar's still recommends spreading it around wiht a foam applicator. So, I don't see much of a time saving versus a regular wax.

OCW is nice because you spray it on the panel, and wipe it around and off with a microfiber. I can do a normal size car in 5 minutes.

That's one reason I like the Mothers duo.

Glad to see you back here Anthony :) I am always getting inspiration from your posts..

Spray waxes are great, esp the good ones like AW and OCW. I use something like Poliseal to prep and then OCW after every or every second wash, keeps the car looking great for months, even in the winter..

Me three!

AW is about the only product I use in quantity that I can pick up locally (Carquest). I usually buy them out. I wish it came in gallon size.

I'm gradually using up my gallons of leaves-stuff-behind QDs; I use them when drying after a wash. Sooner or later I'll need new stuff so...Any issues with AW or OCW when they're used on a mostly, but not 100% dry surface?

Specifically, I blow off most of the water with my AirWand and then spritz on the QD before doing the final drying...wondering how AW/OCW would work for this.

One of the nice things about the QDs I'm currently using is that they seem 100% Accumulator-proof. No streaking or other problems at all, and I mean *NONE*, which is very important to me.

Well thank you my good man.....appreciate the kind words.

Accumulator - AW can be applied to a wet, slightly wet, or dry surface. I think Bryan (gmblack3a) once told me he even puts a litle in his QEW wash mix. I do QEW and ONR washes almost exclusively. Personally, after I wash a section, I spritz it with AW and then wipe dry. You should be fine using it like you mentioned above.

Regarding OCW, when I detailed a car with Scottwax a couple of years ago, he applied CMW to the car, and after it hazed, he spritzed each panel with OCW as he removed the waxy haze. I have started doing this myself.

I use OCW as a booster wax on our old Hyundai (errand running car every other wash), but I dry the car first. I have never tried using it on a wet or slightly wet surface, so I can't comment on that scenario.

On my 73 Beetle, I use Sauveran since it is a garage queen, and I only drive it to shows and cruise ins. Right before an event, I'll wash it with QEW, and apply OCW to give it that freshly waxed look. A QEW wash, and OCW wax takes all of 30 minutes on that little car.

weekendwarrior- Thanks for the reply.

I sometimes do something similar to what you and ScottWax did with the OCW-on-CMW-residue; I'll spritz a little Griot's SpeedShine on my wax residue before I buff it off.

I really oughta give AW/OCW a try sometime, but I'm just *SO* satisfied with Griot's SpeedShine and FK425 as my post-wash boosters

If your happy with that combo and works the way you like than stick with that. I have to say though, I havent used AW but OCW blew me away the first time I used it. I have never once had problems with streaking. I just rub it in and turn my mf over to the dry side and give it a quick wipe down. I dont even know if that last step is needed because there really is never any residue left over after rubbing it in. Just kind of a habit for me.

Ive used OCW both as a topper and my only lsp and its worked great on both occasions.

I dont know about speedshine but im sure youll get a lot more protection and durability out of the OCW than the fk425.

OCW is also great in the slickness department. Very buttery.

Accumulator If you really are interested in trying it out I can send you a sample.

Dsoto87- Thanks for the offer, but I've been turning down *all* offers of samples lately. They either sit on the shelf unused (making me feel guilty) or they convince me that the gallons of stuff I already have need immediately replaced :D

Heh heh, your "..If your happy with that combo and works the way you like than stick with that..." sounds like something that I'd say!

I dunno...I probably like my QD-while-drying approach almost as much for the added lubricity/cleaning as I do the wax-boosting. I'm not gonna go out of my way to fix something that's not broken, but I don't want to be closed-minded about this either.

Im sure your QD while drying routine works great for your car since its maintained better than others on the road, but OCW has its niche.

I dont know if you only do jobs which entail correction but OCW is great for those wash and wax jobs with no correction, or as a topper after an AIO. At the same time, if you have customers that come to you for regular washes its also great as a topper.

OCW has great durability on its own and looks great. Carnauba like with crips reflections. I hardly ever use a qd on a customers car unless its in the removal of a wax.

If it makes you feel any better you can call it a trade.....I wouldnt mind trying some 425.... ;)

people have done tests for durability with waxes n sealants... but has anyone tested spray wax durability? anyone know of any links?

OCW works extremely well in this fashion. I use it at the same point of the drying process as you do with yours.

OCW is also my go-to product for removing wax haze and drips/runs from washing. it seems to have more "bite" then a QD and leaves behind a notably better surface, both in feel and gloss.

The way you do OCW is the same as UQW. The spreading it around with a foam applicator is how Mike P recommends you do it. But if you read the back of the bottle it clearly states to spray it on, wipe it around, turn cloth over and buff off.

That is how I do it with my AW and how I intend to do it with the UQW

Everyone has different ways of doing things and ways that work better for them
