This is the biggest issue I deal with when polishing soft black paint. It`s important to do an Eraser(or similar) wipe down after polishing to see true correction. Most polishes have fillers that will hide micro-marring. So, with SOFT black paint, after a wipedown, is it the towel or polish that`s causing the haze(if present)? Lots of times, the paint will look great before using eraser.

Pending how soft the paint is I`ll use a super fine/jeweling polish for final polish just for that reason. The two I like is essence and menzerna 3800 with a lc black finishing pad. It would seam like the pad won`t do much at all cause of its softness but for some reason it works amazingly with my gg6"

That makes sense. Keep in mind the Eraser is removing everything from the paint including residue that`s masking the swirls. The whole objective of Eraser is to see the actual condition of the paint.

Something similar happened to me after the Eraser wipe. Mine had swirls after a finish polish (Rupes Diamond/pads),
only on the painted plastic though. After re-polishing that area. I Had to change to the
softest towels (eagles) and Eraser wipe one direction as light as possible. That did it for me.

Could be pad and polish combo or the towel like you think. I`ve had a finishing polish leave DA haze with a super light cut pad on soft paint, I`ve also had particular towel leave mirco haze on soft paint. Upgrade to the Edgeless Eagles and never look back.

I`d say it`s the towel as you`ve already wiped off the polish residue, you`re just removing the oils with the Eraser. You can try some different towels and maybe a different solvent. Eraser can be a little more grabby at times.

My go to is Optimum Paint Prep, works much better than Eraser.

OPP It has very nice lubricity but is noticeably less effective at stripping. Use OPP and then try GTechniq Panel Wipe and you`ll see a clear difference.

When I initially bought OPP and Eraser before I got the gallon of OPP, I tried them both on an old paint stain on my neighbors driveway and OPP beat the crap out of Eraser and Goo Gone, it even worked much better than Mineral Spirits. In my experience, OPP is much more effective at stripping Megs TSO than Eraser and even a 50/50 mix of 91% IPA/H20.
Then again, I do spray OPP quite liberally to the panel, let it dwell for a short period of time, and then wipe off with an OPP designated MF and then a drying MF.

The last job i had with soft black paint i allowed my towels to soak in onr and wiped the panel with a damp towel. That seemed to cut down on the towel marring. Soft black paint can make you crazy

OP, what polish are you using, what pad, what machine, and what paint (make/particular color)?

Also, what environment are you doing this correction in? Are you hitting any tape lines with the pad? How often are you cleaning the pad? Are the pads you are using ever been used with a more aggressive polish or compound? Sorry for all the questions, but sometimes working on soft paint (really clear coat) requires a surgical level of cleanliness. Are you by any chance hitting any tapelines with your MF, what exact MF are you using?
Black Honda paint, 2017. GG 6" DA. Didn`t use MF pads as they were not needed. Used a Meg`s 5" maroon cutting disc/FG400 for the first step. Followed with BnS green, blue and blacks pads & Adam`s finishing polish(love this stuff). At a certain angle I could still see slight haze with those pads. Then moved to a Rupes yellow pad and Adam`s finishing polish.....BINGO!!! Finished great!! Damn, the Rupes yellow pads are golden on any paint system. Never thought they would finish so well on soft black.
On a side note, I only use tape if I absolutely have to. Residue from polishing over the can cause havoc!!

Was the paint in that bad of shape to require that^^^ combo? With the BnS pads, it seems to me that, if you are switching between the three colored pads intermittently around the car, you will be getting different results with the three different pads.
No, I dialed in a test spot using ALL the pads. Initially, it had a ton of rotary buffer swirls
