Soft black paint - towel marring or finishing ability?

No DA haze.

I`ve used ONR to wipe down prior to coating. If you take a second mf that was soaked with ONR and wring it out really well and gently wipe with it, you can let it dry without touching it and it will not leave a mark.

Awesome, thanks! What dilution?

Just the normal 1 oz to 2 gals. Using a "drying" towel wrung out with ONR is very effective. I`m not sure whether it would dry without streaking in the sun however, I`m doing that in my garage.

I`m not a pro, but I have experience, but still, soft black is a real pain!

No doubt! Honestly, if I found one of my vehicles had soft paint I`d replace it.

Note that I had a lot of black cars back in the days of (rather soft) single-stage lacquer, got that whole thing thoroughly out of my system decades ago.

The Rupes folks suggest using their yellow pad on soft paints instead of the white. You would think the white pad would finish better but it doesn`t work that way.

Yep, this is true on SOFT paint. The white pad works great on harder paint, but there won`t be much difference, so I use yellow Rupes to finish on all paint systems.
