Silverstone S2000 - finally complete, very wet.

So, as I'm sure some of you have noticed, I've been attacking my six year old 85,000 mile S2000 in stages. Some wetsanding, some headlight polishing, etc. I could attack the beat up front bumper and lip spoiler, but... *shrug* I'm not enthused :D

WELL... I've finally polished out the whole thing - not entirely to my satisfaction, but you have to accept it at some point. The repainted areas on this car are HARD HARD HARD. I don't know what's up with that. I guess that's a good thing, since I've finally gotten it pretty welll corrected to my satisfaction.

general processes

- wetsanding (1500/2000 3M) in spots for scratches and touchups (trunklid, spoiler) and full areas (driver's side)

- Optimum Hyper Compound via rotary or PC and light/cutting pad

- Menzerna 106FF/RMG mix (70/30) via rotary (finishing pad) or PC (polishing pad)

- Klasse AIO (in the case of the driver's door - Z2Pro) and 1-2 coats of Souveran

- 303 on tires (and top), you'll notice the driver's rear is shinier - I sprayed and wiped down all the tires with 303, but this rear I sprayed again the next day and let the 303 soak in overnight. What you see is the result - a little shiny, but dark and even. I like. I used a 4oz pump sprayer that atomizes very well and wiped off the next day to prevent any sort of sling.

It's ALL in the prep, I tell you. Here are a few shots from today...

Thanks for looking!

I really owe it all to you guys. I started up this detailing frenzy about a year ago and waited and waited until I'd really gotten it all down before I attacked my own car. Thanks so much for all of the input, the advice and the knowledge.

And forgive the fact that I'm still running my winter tire/wheel combo :D

thanks :)

richy: I detailed the interior a month or two ago - pulled the seats, steamed the carpets, 303'd all the vinyl and plastic, very thorough. Then we had pollen. :)

mach: canon 10d with 50/1.8 lens.

You need to put it back inside before the dust settles in the paint, it looks too wet to be fully cured. :wow:

Looks awesome, come on down to NC and get rid of this OP in my two!

That's shweeet!

It probably looks dripping insane in person because I'm sure those photos don't do it justice...knowing how hard wet silver is to capture in photos.

DOH!

That's a thourough interior detail, I need to get me a steam cleaner! fantastic job again your car looks amazing

Thanks everyone. and Scott - that's a great compliment coming from you. I owe the 106FF/RMG technique to you :)

richy I call it steam cleaning, but it's just the Bissel Little Green "steamer". Works pretty well, though. I still use the shop vac for extraction since it's got much more juice. Need to get in there and vacuum and wipe everything down again... :( At least pollen season's nearly over.

lbls... I'm anxiously awaiting the delivery. I've got a detailing demonstration I'm doing in a couple of weeks so I hope to have a couple coats on in time for that :)

Nice work! As I said on S2KI, I think your car will look even better when you get some Concours on it. ;)
