SilverStars

Okay, I'm a dumbass.

Anyone want to buy a set of the GE Nighthawks, size 9004? :)

I had picked up a set of 9003's (which I needed), then realized the package was a little dented, so just to be safe, I grabbed the set behind it on the peg...of course assuming they would be 9003's. Guess what?

So PM me if you want a deal on a set of 9004s. The outer packaging has been torn off, but I didn't open the inside case.

Take them back if you got them at wally land...they will resell it but in the bargain aisle...seen some there today when I went to get some nighthawks..mine are 9007 HB5...orsams does not make that size in Europe....I hope these are good...

Next I want to install some driving/fog lights may go with Cibie..Hella...PIAA...not sure on which yet..need to do more research on them...I live in a very rural area and street lights are an option here and I live on a dark country road and some times you find cows in the road..deer...fallen trees and what ever else....so lightning is important...

Hope they work out for you..

Well, my gf's brother has 9004's in his car-a '93 Escort, so he'll be getting my mistake as a late Christmas present :grinno: He'll be stylin'!

Picked up a set of 9003 Nighthawks today. Very nice. Much whiter than OEM, *appear* to be brighter, and what surprised me the most was the cut-off. Very sharp like HID, and two, distinct slanted lines. I didn't expect that since the reflector wasn't altered in any way-must be something special in the design of the bulb.

Yes...I picked a pair also....and I Really like them...yes brighter than the OEM ..and yes they are white....very white...I think they are worth the money...I am happy..

I did not find the silverstar's all that great. Headlight burnt out in my wife's 328i and I bought the silverstars (feel for the Madison Avenue marketing). I first but just one in to see if there was a difference. I could tell no difference from the driving or looking at the light when on. I replaced the other then. No difference in my opinion. The cost difference between the OEM part at the dealership and the silver stars was not much. I think an improvement may depend on what OEM bulbs your vehicle comes with.

Same with the Osram Silverstars (my car also uses the 9003/H4 bulb) and suprisingly white since the bulb isn't colored that I can see.

My first pair of Silverstar lasted about a year and a half. I was pretty impressed considering they were half the price of the PIAA and just as bright. I bought my second set of SS 5 months ago and one blew out. Now I didn't expect them to go more than a year but 5 months thats crap. I not willing to spend that much every year for bulbs. I took the advice of the previous posts and bought the GE Nighthawks. I compared them with my OEM and SS and I gotta say they were very similar to the OEM. In fact you almost couldn't tell the difference between the two. However, there was a noticeable difference between the GE and SS as far as a bright white light. I'm disappointed because I was hoping the GE would give me the benefits of the SS at a better cost. Needless to say I'm gonna see if I can return them back to Walmart.

I would like to get the Osram Silverstar for my 2000 Honda Accord but I don't think they make them.

Does anyone have a link on how to convert the 9005 (high beam bulb) to the low beam output?

Well, I was trying to find the Osram's for the HB4/9006 size and I can't find them anywhere. Oh well.

I read this:

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/523421/3

and I'm not quite sure what he's pointing out in the pics, but he says the Euro and US ones are almost the same except for the coating??

Anyways, I've had the US-spec SSs in my car for 2 years now and no problems, except I don't think they're really as bright as my OEM bulbs. But they sure look better cosmetically:)

I put in some Night Hawks and I have to say I like the Silverstars color better. But the Night Hawks do look pretty bright on the road even though when you look at them head on with an OEM on one side and Night Hawks on the other they look the same. But I still miss that whitish bluish hue that the Silverstars gave off, too bad that they only lasted 11 months.

<<Attempting not to rain on any parades>>

My experience is that Sylvania Silverstars equals marketing hype and nothing more. Side by side comparison of the silverstars on my Accord and my Odyssey show ZERO improvement. I put a new Silverstar in the driver's side and left the passenger side as the OEM bulb (for giggles one night). Drove down a street with zero lighting and found there to be no visible difference at all. Pissed that I just forked out $80 (2 cars) for nothing I came back installed the passenger side bulb. Next night was bull@#$ing with my neighbor whom owns the same exact model van and we took the vans down the same street, parked them next to each other and compared the light output. He walked out in front of the vans in the dark until he disappeared from the headlights of both of them. At exactly the same point he disapeared from view. Again, this proved zero benefit from $40 bulbs. :wall

To make matters worse one of the stupid Silverstars burnt out on the Odyssey 5 weeks after I installed them. I trashed the good silverstar and bought normal bulbs vowing to never waste my time or money again. The silverstars on the Accord lasted a little over 6 months before the passenger side burnt out. Again I replaced with normal bulbs.

My experience is that Sylvania Silverstars suck. Marketing has hyped people into believing that they are better than other bulbs when in reality they are only better than worn out bulbs. I learned my lesson for wanting poseur blue HID wanna-be's on my car.

<<your results may vary but I doubt it>> :angry

Is it possible that Honda OEM uses bulbs similar to the Silverstars? I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience.

I'm still amazed at the light that my Silverstars provide.

I wrote to the company complaining about how my second pair lasted 5 months. They sent me out a free set, but once these are gone I'm going back to my OEM bulbs. I like the white light I just can't justify the extra cost. I also question their effectiveness in snow and rain. I actually think the OEM work better for me.

How do you know who makes the OEM bulbs?? When I go to Autozone or somewhere, they have Philips, Sylvania, and GE.

They also have long-life versus 'normal' life. Which bulbs are you guys preferring over the Silverstars?? Just curious, as there are many options...

:)

Blubird - More than likely, those bulbs are either colored, which allows the light to have the 6000K color to it, or they run a higher than normal current through the bulb, which decreases bulb life. I don't see how those are any different from typical "blue" headlight bulbs that you'll find at local stores. The gas content may be a bit different composition.

Max it also said on the website they have a lifetime warranty, that if they burn out they replace them. Which isnt too bad I dont think.

Do they state that the bulbs are 50-state legal?

Is the warranty guaranteeing that the bulb will never burn out? I have a hard time believing that these bulbs will never burn out.
