Short and Long Nap MF

what tasks do you guys use the short and long nap for ?

I know long naps are used for QD .

but what about the simple task of removing and buffing wax ?

do you use long nap to remove the initial cured wax coating, then short nap for final buffing ? or is it the other way round ?

What do you mean by "long nap"? There used to be flat weave (Meguiar's Ultimate Wipe and others), short nap, and long nap...but in the last couple of years has been the advent of the "shag" MF's, so to my mind there are 4 levels.

Generally speaking, if you've got really tough-to-buff residue, you're going to want flat or short nap. If it's easy to buff, the long-nap will work. I can't speak to the shag because I don't have any (although I was admiring one in Pep Boys the other day).

In regard to your last question, I would do it the other way around, the short nap to cut the residue, than the long for the final buffing and dust removal.

+1 to what Setec says. On a general purpose MF (short nap on one side and a long nap on the other) use the shorter nap to cut the initial wax/polish residue and the longer nap for final buffing.
