Sealents that claim to last FOREVER with one application?

I've had some customers asking about something called "micro-seal" lately. They started advertising it on the radio about how after you apply it to your car, it's protected FOREVER and you never need to seal or wax your car again. I know this can't be. What am I supposed to tell my customers that ask about it though?

Ask them if they believe everything they hear. Tell them it is impossible. If they got a scratch etc, it would need to be buffed out, which will take the sealant off. It is like one of those "As seen on TV" infomercials.......

Not everything that is 'as seen on TV' is bad. My car is as seen on TV. So is my Pepsi. Actually, a lot of what we use on a regular basis is as seen on TV. However, TexasTB is right... the stuff is probably crap. Even the paint on your car won't last forever, so how is this stuff stronger than your paint? It is a bunch of bunk.

Thanks, I completely agree with you guys and will use those points to sell them on not thinking the stuff will work. Has anyone heard of that brand "micro-seal" specifically? Not only are they commercials on the radio, they have local radio personalities endorsing this product as well.

Those guys are only working on the radio because they aren't qualified to work at MacDonalds. I wouldn't trust their opinions. They are paid for everything they say. Buying something because someone on the radio told you to is like buying mufflers because a former boxer told you to. I would prefer the opinion of someone who hasn't been bought by the company they are pimping when it comes to car care products.

There is not a product on the market that will last forever...not even the clear coat will do that.....without some maintenance...I would tell your customer its all a marketing gimmick and that's about it....sure it will make your car look good to start but last for the life of the car....not hardly....That's like saying the guy that has the beer gut and needs to loose 40 pounds can buy the Ab-buster and have rippled abs from that in a couple of weeks with only a few minutes a day....its a marketing gimmick

Tell them to get satellite radio so they don't have to listen to crappy commercials. :D

Seriously, I just searched briefly and could not find a car care product called micro-seal. The next time you hear it, listen for a website or better name. Then go to their website and find their warranty fine print, then print it out to show the customers. It'll probably have every exception possible.

yeah, but even satellite radio (xm and sirius) have commercials on their TALK shows...just not their music. So my question is, why do you have to pay to listen to the commercials? Try the 3 days free subscription....I did and was not impressed.

They only give a phone number.

I bet this is their website:

I don't see any claims of "forever". Point your customers to it and tell them to find and read the warranty.

That seems to be the site. I also don't see any claims of forever. They definitely claim that on the radio though. It is said at least 4 times how it only needs to be "applied once and protects the paint for the life of the car" and so on. I might get the phone number next time I hear it and call to ask some questions...

Please do that. Then call the radio stations and put their feet to the fire.

haha, I was talking about those late night infomercials.
"take this amazing pill, and you can lose 100 pounds this month!!!!!!! (with regular diet and excercise, is always added.) Then they show skinny people and say the results are not typical in very fine print on the bottom of the screen. LOL Or the "make millions at home with this information".
Those types of "as seen on TV" things....sorry, I shoulda specified what I was talking about. :bigups

Even those things aren't all bad. My glass wizard tool thing is as seen on TV. So is my Ding King. Those are products that work. I agree that many of them are pretty crazy and probably not going to live up to the hype, but some of them actually do work as seen on TV.

Well I emailed them the other day, but haven’t gotten a response, so I have my radio on and am waiting for that number.

I'm actually going to be detailing these radio stations' sales peoples' cars soon. It probably wouldn't be the best to go after them since they are going to be paying me. As long as they don't request I use that product I'll keep my mouth shut about them playing the dishonest ads. :)

I guess I am waching TV at the wrong times...LOL:D

Its a great idea but not one I would money into. As mentiod is an as seen on tv type thing. (i myself have fallen for a few and have mixed reviews) but i think if you explain to those customers that the selanet comes off and it is just an extra layer on their clearcoat they will understand. Cant argue with the facts

Well I finally got my emial answered.

What I wrote:
Do you advertise on the radio about your product? If so, are you the company who says their product lasts forever and only needs to be applied once?

How they responded:
Hello Brett,

Please call me at 951-809-1231 or you can give me your number and I wil call you. I am in Southern California. We can talk about my product.

Thanks for your inquiry.

Larry Herrera

I guess they couldn't give me an answer over an email. :gotme: I guess I'll call Monday to find out what is so special about this product.

BTW I haven't heard this ad on the radio since I first started this thread.
