Scratched up looking paint after debadging

I just finished washing my car by hand and i'm afraid i may have put some swirls in it. Here is what i did. What did i do wrong.

I had 2 buckets. I filled one with clean water and the other with water and one grand car wash soap. I had 2 wash mitts. One for the hood, roof, and doors, and one for the lower dirtier areas. After each panel i would dip my mitt into the clean water bucket to get the dirt off. I would then hit the mitt with the hose to get even more dirt out. I would then put back in the car wash bucket. I did this until the car was clean. We have hard water here so i tried to dry it quickly with the absorber. I've read here that you should just dab it instead of running it along the paint. Before i dried i took the nozzle off to let the water sheet. The dabbing wasn't working very good, i guess there was too much water left. I had to very gently run the absorber over the paint. By the time i was done drying i noticed alot of hard water spots on the paint and the windows. My glass cleaner didn't really get rid of them on the glass. I took show off to the remaining water spots. When i finished I notice some swirl marks(they weren't in a swirl pattern since i was washing in a back and forth motion. What did i do wrong?

on dark cars you have to be sorta quick, if it's hot and it dries quick you might consider drying by panel

a lot of times your wax system will help you to a streak free finish after drying. it's way harder to keep a so-so waxed car clean then one with something like Klasse or Zaino

my recommendation is to slowly arch your mitt (so as to keep it in contact with a clean spot) as you are swiping and only to make one pass per side.

I would consider drying with an plush microfiber towel (if you think the bandit is the culprit) then you can sort of aid the drying process by spraying some quick detailer and using a new microfiber towel to aid itn the final drying going by panel to get is as soon as possible.

you should remove the waterspots before waxing your car again if they don't seem to come off with quick detailer or soap

good luck and tell us how it comes out :up

I use two wash buckets also. I dip my sea sponge in the rinse bucket and squeeze the water out a few times. I also dump and refill this bucket at least once during the wash. My shampoo bucket always stays clean this way.

As far as the hard water goes, I always make sure to frequently keep the water moving on the vehicle. As you wash and rinse sections, go back and quickly re-rinse the sections you have completed already. This helps keep the water from spotting in any one place. The idea is to sheet the beads off before they dry, and leave fresh ones behind. Then when the vehicle is completely washed, sheet off as much as you can, and dry.

Not sure if this is the right place to put it so if im wrong Im sorry. This isn't a very great picture but it might give you an idea

when the car is wet you cant notice it but when its dry it looks as if the car is super scratched up and like the paint is cloudy and you can see partial the words Pontiac on it but there is no residue. I tried washing it, using a compound, wax and polish and its still there. what would you recommend I try?

I recommend you drive to Phx and pay me to polish your car :D I'll use my special reserve sealant when I'm done.

Well all kidding aside, it is really hard to determine what you might need from that picture. Additionally, it is unknown what your resources and abilities are. I recommend machine polishing with at least a DA polisher. You may accomplish something by hand but it will take a while. Try giving one of Meguiars consumer products a try, like Ultimate Compound. Follow with Ultimate Wax. If you have a machine the effectiveness of UC will be much greater. A few more details may help develop a specific plan.
