If your engine requires premium fuel and you continually use 87 Octane you will cause detonation in your engine from the fuel igniting too early. Engines that require premium fuel have a higher compression ratio and need higher octane fuel to allow the fuel to be compressed that much before igniting. Over a period of a couple years your engine will be completely toast. It will happen even faster than a couple years if your car is supercharged or turbocharged.
