Rhino Ramps keep sliding forward

I tried to get my F150 up these ramps to change the oil. Unfortunately when the truck was halfway up the ramps would slide forward. And its sucks that the ramp only has one square rubber piece at the bottom and not on the other end. Any suggestions on preventing the ramps from sliding forward? Should I just drive up the ramps with some speed and have my left foot on the brake at the same time to prevent over travel?

If you roll right up to the base and stop, they're always gonna slide on you. Make sure they are both the same distance from the front tires and then roll up 'em at a couple of MPHs. They'll always slide away if you're too slow.

I had a pair of those ramps and my car fell off them.:scared The car punctured one of them and I threw them out. Luckily the car wasn't damaged. I can still do most of my undercarriage detailing laying on the ground and I change my oil with my extractor.

Yeah, I'd agree. you're only placing a fraction of the vehicle's weight on the ramps. Maybe they were from a bad batch :( I've never had an issue.

The Rhino Ramps are a widely-accepted alternative to jacking the car up.

I bought a set late last year and never had any problems using them. I was surprised because they didn't slip at all. Perhaps it depends what surface you have them on, for me it was tarmac.

If your using them in the garage, place a 1x4 lengthwise between the ramps and the end wall so they wont budge on you...I had the same problem. You could also put some grip tape on the floor where the bottom of the ramp is placed, this will help keep it from moving.

My garage floor is really smooth and the Rhino ramps slid all over the place. I put a couple of concrete anchors in the floor for 1/4" bolts, drilled a wooden 2 X 4 and used phillips head bolts to hold the board at the front of the ramps to keep them from sliding forward. I can easily remove the board with a phillips screwdriver if I ever need to. This worked fine til I tried to put my son's Prelude front wheel drive on the ramps and they tried to slide back toward the car. I then went out and got some self-adhesive non-slip stair pads and put them on the floor where the front and back rubber pads of the ramps sit. They have never given me any more trouble, except that they are a bit low for a guy with a bit more waistline like myself! Tough choice - get taller ramps or lose weight - oh the agony!

Yeesh, Bill & Corey's assessments aren't too encouraging. I can crawl under the MDX (8"+ clearance) no problem for oil/tranny changes, but the G35 is only about 4.5" off the ground...so I need the ramps (or jacking) to get to the drainplug and filter. No margin for error if the ramp cracks/flips and unloads a car w/such low clearance. I care about the car, but care more about my noggin.

What do you recommend instead? A *good* jack and jackstands, I suppose?

I love my Rhino Ramps. They do slide however on my painted garage floor. Attach a piece of rope to the hole in the ramp and lay it straight down the floor. When you pull up on the ramps the back wheels will be on the rope and hold it in place.

I have no problems with them sliding on my concrete driveway.

I have never had a problem using the rhino ramps. I use them all the time for oil changes and getting under the front of the car. I have only used front-wheel drive cars and I've notices that the ramps sort of get "sucked" under the wheels. It works very well for me. I can see how someone with RWD would have to anchor the ramps in some fashion to prevent them from moving.

I think that as long as you have the ramps centered with the wheels and drive the car up them straight, then there shouldn't be any problems. And they save quite a bit of time compared to jacking up the car and using jack stands. IMHO

I hate using ramps! We were rolling my friends 72 Celica off of a set of ramps one day and one of the ramps shot out and hit my shin...could of been a lot worse.

I was having this problem too with my 350z.

I have a thin foam rubber mat that I put under each ramp.

This keeps them from sliding as you move up.

Get two rubber backed door mats and set them under the ramps. This is the fastest and easiest way I know of to stop ramps from sliding, hasn't failed me yet. Where's the knock on wood smilie when you need it. LOL
