Review: HD Poxy (Holiday Giveaway)

Again I would like to thank Dave and everyone else at 3D/HD for making this giveaway possible. I have been using HD products for a little over a year now starting with HD Polish (which I recommend) and about 6+ months ago started using HD Adapt (which I HIGHLY recommend). So when this giveaway came up I was very happy to jump on and give another one of there products a try. On to the review......

Starting out from the shipping and bottle itself, the bottle was very secure inside the shipping box with bubble wrap completely surrounding it. I really like the bottle and the nozzle on the end. No mess whatsoever and no wasted product. Initial smell I thought maybe a fabric softener but my wife said bug spray. I guess I'm no good at pin pointing some smells .

The product claims:

HYBRID PAINT PROTECTION

-MONTAN WAX & SEALANT
-LONG LASTING
-EASY TO USE

HD Poxy, is a hybrid paint sealant/wax that has been designed to bond to the painted surface for protection and a long lasting durable shine.

Its montan wax properties will darken the appearance and create depth for the ultimate wet-look shine.

Works exceptionally well on all colors including black and dark color paints.

Unlike any wax available HD Poxy will give you a deep, glossy finish while protecting against the natural effects of Mother Nature, bird droppings, acid rain, hard water deposits and many other adverse paint challenges.

Crafted from Mined Fossilized Montan Wax HD POXY is the highest heat resistant wax on the market.

Carnauba Wax melts at 187 ° F, whereas Montan Wax melting point is 203°F.

Directions:

Shake Well Before Use. Apply, in a cool place, 6-8 pea sized drops on to an applicator pad of your choice and work on a 2’ by 2’ area. For best results use HD Pads. Apply a thin layer of product over the entire painted surface using a DA Random Orbital Polisher (slow speed).

To achieve the highest protection and bonding, allow the product to cure for 30 to 45 minutes before buffing off.

Wipe using a clean dry micro fiber towel and buff to an extremely high gloss finish.

You may re-apply every 3-4 months depending on the usage and maintenance of the car.

Price on HD Car Care:
$14.99-$69.99
(16oz)-(1Gal)

HD Poxy was applied using an LC Black Pad via PC on speed 3 in my garage. I started out by using directions on the bottle. I did 7 peas to start out and 5 or 6 after start up.

HD Poxy spread very nice and even over all panels. After applying to the car I pulled the car out into the driveway (around 70° outside) and let the product sit for about 40 minutes per the directions. Wipe-off was extremely easy and took almost no pressure at all. I didn't notice much darkening if any but silver isn't really a good color to test it out on. I also didn't notice any filling but I'm not sure if it is supposed to have any filling capabilities. The paint does feel slicker but is not very slick. I did apply this 4+ weeks ago so I could test some durability and it is holding up just fine over weekly washes and still looks good. I would like to do another coat in the summer to see how it holds up to the Southern California heat.

In conclusion:
So far I would recommend this product to everyone however I will do my best to update the overall durability. Thanks for looking.

Matt

Thanks for the review. The durability should be good especially since the Southern California weather is not to harsh on LSP's.

Cool review. Would like to hear durability in summer sun/heat.

Am I not mistaken that the original poxy's directions said apply in one direction only? I think I remember this from the original packaging. (bought it, never used it)

Great review!! Thanks so much for taking part in this project!
Thank you!

I don't know. Almost all waxes I have used fail to stay on the car for more than a week or two (if even that long) during the really hot summer months. Even 845 didn't last me very long. But out here in San Bernardino we get almost up to 110° in August/September and my car is outside all day everyday.

Will do. That is strange on the old Poxy. Is there a reason for spreading in one direction? I don't think I have ever heard that. I would think less coverage that way.

Great review. Thanks for sharing !!!
Thanks!

Well, that description intrigued me so I had to research Montan wax...apparently it's extracted from brown coal...weird.
Interesting................I hadn't looked into it. I will definitely see if I can learn more about it now.

I used my sample of Poxy on my hood, and it is SLICK and looks great. On par with my recent favorite Sonus SFX4. I didn't notice much of the claimed darkening with the Poxy.

Interesting. Looking forward to your findings. I'm a little more south than you ( in the beach cities Redondo Beach, Torrance) and it gets to triple digits once in awhile but most of the time the weather is good. I may have to try this myself and see what kind of durability I see on my daily that sits outside 24/7.

How has it been holding up lately?
Planning on doing a wash today or tomorrow to see for sure. I said in another thread that beading was dead but I used a shampoo with wax in it and I think that might have been what caused it. It did rain really hard last night at my place and it looked like it might still be holding up. When I wash this time will be with PB SSS which won't add anything to it so I will see if the beading comes back. We have had some hot days here in the IE. A few over 90°.

Thanks. Looking to see how it holds up to the So Cal weather. I'm in a little cooler area by the beach. I'm debating on whether or not to pick up a bottle.

So I washed my dd again last night and Poxy is definitely gone. I'm sure it was dead on my last wash 3/13 also. However that still means about 6 weeks durability in moderate weather. I don't think it can handle the heat through the summer at all though. I kept 4oz and sent the rest to The Guz. Where he is tends to be about 10° to 20° cooler than my area of So Cal so I hope it lasts at least that long for him. I do plan on doing 2 coats and testing it out again to see if that helps at all.

6 weeks..?..that's surprising poor no matter the temp. You can get that out of a booster spray wax and then some.

Of course here in SW PA we don't have the heat like SoCal, but I get 3-4 months out of Poxy with only a few boosts with Aquawax.
