Review: Chemical Guys Bare Bones
Introduction:
When I started, wheel wells were something like the inner barrels - "you clean those?" Well, sometimes cleaning isn't enough.
Thanks to Corey again for providing the format.

"Chemical Guys Bare Bones Undercarriage Spray
Delivers a like-new appearance to undercarriage.

Detailing your undercarriage is just as important as detailing the paint. Wheel wells, sub-frame, springs, fender well and all of the other black and gray parts underneath the body need some love too.
Make what counts shine like it should. The perfect detail starts with Bare Bones, and the Bare Bones is your undercarriage, the stuff you don't see that silently waits underneath your cars. Chemical Guys Bare Bones Undercarriage Spray
Details:
1.- Packaging: Plastic Bottle with trigger sprayer
2.- Directions: Clearly labeled
3.- Viscosity: Thick and oily
4.- Color: Reddish purple
5.- Scent: Grape (based on some of the comments I've received on the other reviews, take with large grain of salt)
6.- Price at time of review: 16oz = $ 9.99
7.- Manufacturer: Chemical Guys
9.- Made in: California
Product
Other Products Used:
ARO
Brush
MF
Preparation:
During this morning's wash, I did a number on the tires with a new product and hit the wheel wells with ARO. Let dwell while I was scrubbing the tire, agitated with a brush and blasted with my pressure washer. In normal lighting, it looked pretty good but the halogen showed differently.
Application:
Spray liberally on wheel well and let dwell. Wipe with MF.
Could have sworn I read somewhere that it needed a 24hr drying period but don't see it on the label or the CG website. Maybe it was for a different product. :thinking
Observations:
CG Bare Bones nicely darkens the plastic and leaves a glossy finish. It took what looked OK (in normal inspection) and finished it out proper. I've gotten pretty good durability but we haven't had much rain in a long time.
Cleaned with ARO
After
Does it meet its claims: yes.
Comparisons:
I don't have a competing product.
Pros:
1.- Delivers new looking black, clean-looking wheel well.
2.- Protects.
3.- Easy to use.
4.- Good durability
???:
1.- Ultimate durability. I've gone a month or so but there was no rain during that time.
2.- I know I read there was a 24 hr drying time somewhere.
Cons:
1.- Does not dry to the touch for quite some time.
Final Observations and Summary:
While I haven't tried any of the competitors, I am quite satisfied with the results I get. Great looks and excellent durability. I may try Griot's or CG BtB one day but am not rushing to find an alternative to CG Bare Bones and this kind of product is really low on my priority list. If I owned a truck....
Yeah, most of my customers, I have to point out the wheel wells and inner barrels, too.
Comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for viewing!
