Recent Detail vs. Ugh!

I worked on a VERY LARGE 1981 Buick Park Ave. today, and I must say, pheuu! Man that was a long job. The interior didn't turn out to be picture worthy, it really needs a recarpeting job.

Exterior was a "fun" job to say the least, with horrendous swirls, and it was a chore compared to most cars I do. The roof is so dry it sucked up 3 coats of Trim restorer, so I gave up on that as well.

Processes:

Wash

Clay

Polish stainless pieces (need refinishing)

SSR 2.5 on cutting pad via rotary at 1000RPM

SSR2 on polishing pad via PC x2

Megs #82 via polishing pad

Topped with NXT

Pictures: (sorry no befores)

Thanks for looking, post some replys please. Not bad for 24 year old paint eh? :)

That's my old car! Identical!

It was my grandfather's, then my father's and then my brother's (who TRASHED it :furious: ) We kep it immaculate until he got it. I remember he lost his temper and used the heel of his work boot to bash in the console and radio because the tape player jammed up :nervous:

It even had the pimp curb feelers on it and velour interior. That thing was a cream puff with a huge V8 in it.

I miss that car :bawling:

Nice work Steve :xyxthumbs The paint looks great for that age. I know how crazy detailing those things are. I remember as a kid how hard it was to lean over the hood to get in the middle. There's a lot of metal too to work on. I hated removing tar deposits on the bottom of the doors.

Looks sweet

Nice job Steve! I'm really surprised someone would want one of those detailed, usually if they let it go it's done.

You said you used rotary at 1,000 rpm, is it pretty hard to burn through paint at that speed? Nice job, btw.

Oh right, sorry, I'm a little slow right now. The owner said 26, and I wasn't in the mood to the math. :LOLOL

I hear ya man. I suck at math. The only reason I knew that is because I was born in '81. :D That car sure turned out nice though.

I'm stunned the top half of the car isn't laquer checked.

I don't think I've seen one of those boats that clean and shiny...ever!

Excellent job Steve, nice to see one of these in good shape. I'd say the paint looks pretty darn good for 24 years old. I feel for you, I had a 1981 Olds Holiday 88 coupe that took a long time to clean and polish! :woot:
