What someone should get out of this thread...

1. Paint prep is key to good results

2. There is a good chance many products may satisfy you

3. Technique often determines the likelihood of a positive experience

4. Some can get very emotional over products

One through three make sense.

Four=Give me a break.

Good Times!!

Use too much and that happens with most products. Use less, apply to the whole car before removing. Took me a few tries to figure it out.

Heh heh, I'm pretty fanatical about thin applications...if anything I sometimes think I overdo that and *that* might lead to such issues (less product = more friction from pad during machine application = greater chance of disturbing existing wax). I *do* use more 476S than, say...#16, but I use such a tiny amount of #16 that it's downright weird; can't do that with a "harder" wax like 476S, I simply have to use a bit more (a can of 476S will still last me many, many years).

And yeah, I usually apply to the whole vehicle before removing anyhow, even with Souveran.

This 476S pseudo-hologram thing has me stumped as I've been doing the same thing since forever, with even the same tin of wax, and I only get 'em on very rare occasions :nixweiss I've pretty much tracked down every variable I can think of and the occurrences simply seem random

A change in formula? Clearly something has changed, and it doesn't sound like the change has happened on your end.

There has been a change but it's not relevant in my case. I bought a case of pre-VOC 476S and I'm still using the same can anyhow.

Dunno if the problem is more/less prevalent with the new post-VOC stuff or not.

Hmmm. So you are using the same can. Youi did not used to have the problem but now you are. Sounds like divine punishment. Have you thought about confession? :)

How old is the can? I wonder if age could have anything to do with it?

I dunno...a few years. I sure *hope* there's no weird shelf-life issue, what with eleven more cans sitting there unopened :o My other paste waxes are a lot older than that and they're still fine.

I haven't used 476 so I can't comment on the hologram issue. The two Migliore waxes I have tried (Fine and Frutta) have that problem though, mostly because they are hard to remove. Usually have to use a little QD to completely remove the excess. I'd use them more often if they weren't such a PITA to remove.

collinite 845 9/10 because of its durability and ease of using it

opti seal 10/10 durable and got a very good finish on my silver paint

megs 26 7/10 one of the good otc products i love to use

Ah, OK, roger that.

Hey now... that's *my* line! ;)

And FWIW.... I have always found Bence to be nothing more than a gentleman and a class act to the core. Not that my opinion amounts to anything, but I just thought I'd get that out there. Bence is right up there with Accumulator, Scottwax, totolandMach, Todd, Rydawg, David Fermani, Setec ,etc. etc. on my "most respected Autopian" list. Even in the heat of that battle, you never resorted (or stooped) to lowering yourself to "he who must not be user_named" level.

On a happier note, I have printed up Bence's list and tacked it on the cork board for future acquisitions. :)

Zaino Z5pro 9/10

Swissvax Concorso - 8/10

Swissvax Mystery - 7/10

Poorboys Natty's Blue - 7/10

Souveran - 6/10

Worst to best and why.

Pinnacle Souveran attracts dust and doesnt last.

Mystery is a robbery to me. Cool to have $550 wax, but not needed.

Concorso is really nice, its my favorite Carnauba wax. But for $220 less, I can use Natty's Blue

Zaino Z5 gives a great look, easy to use, it lasts, and it cost effective.

Most important things to me are looks, ease of use, cost and durability in that order.

Ultima Paint Guard Plus- 9/10

Opti Seal - 9.5/10

Acrylic Jett Trigger 8/10

I think the Ultima is a little more durable but it is also more expensive. AJT is not quite as easy to use and durability is just shy of the other two. OptiSeal is so simple to use, looks great, and costs less than Ultima.

Danase Wet Glaze 9/10 - I often use it as a LSP when I just want a little something extra - not much durability but that is not why I am using this product. I am not deducting anything for practicality ... I just like it.

Collinite 845 8/10 beading and durability are outstanding but the others are just easier to use.

S100 - 7.5/10 I just like the look of this carnauba and it is easy to use.

Klasse SG - 7/10 On my wife's white CRV I never had any trouble using this product and nothing has ever been more durable than SGx3 for me. However, I now use AJT (need to use it up) and/or OptiSeal because they are just easier to use. Wipe on and Walk Away is just too damn easy.

Supe, thank you very much! I'm truly honored.

+1 I always pay attention to their posts.

Optimum OS: 9.0/10 (super easy to apply, great durability, wet looking, but I knocked it a tad for not looking that great on Silver)

Werkstat AJT: 9.5 (easy to apply, amazing gloss, decent durability, fantastic looking on Silver. This may be the one sealant that looks more different than any other sealant)

UPGP: 8.5 (jury still out for durability, but it sure sheds dirt good. Doesn't look quite as good as OS to me)

FK 1000p: 8.5 (very durable, looks good on lighter colors, fairly easy to apply and remove but not as good as the wowa's)

TOL's Trade Secret Carnauba: 7.5 (a very, very nice Carnauba (ivory) that looks fantastic on darker colors and red. It is a joy to apply, nice creamy and smooth. But it gets deductions for lack of durablity and dust attraction)

Blackfire WD: (pending further experience. Good slickness. I think it is very similar to UPP, and it comes in the exact same bottle)

UPP: 8.0: (great slickness, but it doesn't last. It looks somewhat warmer for a sealant. Easy to remove)

Z2: 7.5: (used to be a big fan, but it is a pain to work with compared to so many other alternatives, it does have a sterile look and isn't great on dark colors)

Bump for a good old thread.

Should be updated with some new LSP!

Heh heh, I'm still just using the same stuff I've been using- Klasse twins, Collinite, #16, UPP. I'll probably still use Souveran if (uhm...I mean "when") I finally get it back on the road.

I did finally get around to doing the Yukon XLD with FK1000P last year, and it looks good and cleans up very nicely. Doesn't seem to offer the same "thick plastic coating" type protection as KSG though; it's *MUCH* easier to mar it.

I've been tempted to buy some Malm's wax and/or some ProWax "Yellow" (whatever the modern part number is...) just for old-time's sake, but I'm not sure what I'd use 'em on so I'm just saving my money for now.
