Rate your current LSP arsenal

I have tried so many... I like blackfire for ease of use and initial look, but for longevity, I think werkstat acrylic topped with z8 is damn near perfect.

Bump for new products and/or changes of opinion :)

I'm becoming more and more enamored of FK1000P. Really great stuff. If the look still strikes me as a bit "sealanty" on some paints, well...I just don't care because it's simly *so* easy to live with. I might even switch the S8 over to it some time. Eh, I could just use it on *everything*...well, everything except the Jag ;)

Good point on GLARE.

This is my standard weapon for special-event showcars were protection is not needed. The wetness, reflectiveness makes Zaino (which I love) pale in comparison. Glare gives a genuine "glassy" wet look on well-prepped clearcoat.

This Celica has been trialled with many LSPs in the past....but the owner was most impressed when GLARE was used (below).

The car looks good, but that product sound like snake oil to me. It says it contains glassplexin. You should look that one up. It doesn't exist.

Got my hands on some Collinite 476 ..and so far, I really like it.

Huh, with all the stuff you've tried that's saying something. I was prepared to hear that you didn't like it.

I'll be interested in how it holds up; for one-coat applications it seems very good. But then you get Souveran to hold up down there anyhow!

And while it's awfully subjective, I also look forward to hearing your take on its appearance. As long as there's good prep beforehand, I really do think people overstate the "it's no beauty wax!" thing. Hey, 476S is the wax that some "expert" mistook for DodoJuice, saying "I use that, and nothing else looks like it!" :chuckle:

They had to name the special ingredient somehow, didn't they? ;)

I got an assortment of products as samples directly from them to try a few years ago. I contacted them directly and mentioned I had the intention to make some reviews for autopia.

They were very willing and excited about it. I got not only paint products, but also leather and tire care products.

I posted some reviews of the products (search and you'll find them)

Most of the stuff was very good (as there so many other products we use here) and the initial set of reviews was showing it (wheel cleaner, leather cleaner and liquiclay) Problem arose when my review of the tire shine was less than stellar, my contact at Glare kept insisting that the browning on the tires was because it was taking the "bad silicones" out of the rubber, and I had used nothing but water based tire dressing prior to that, so we had lively discussions. We also exchanged a lot of emails also about their compound (knock-out) as I had a heck of a hard time using it. I didn't post the review of the compound, and sadly I never got into posting the LSP (Glare polish) and the finishing polish glaze (spyder) reviews

The LSP is very very good, probably the most reflective product on the market. It is also very durable, probably also the most durable. As downsides, looks is sterile, meaning not for everyone. Cost is quite high. Durability, while excellent, won't make it beyond 6-7 months (well short of the 5 years claim) and when starts diminishing, it will go down fast. Application and removal are not that easy. At the time I got the samples, I offered to a few high profile autopians to share the products so they could be tested by more than just one person. Only one accepted (wannafbody) and he was impressed. The product, because of the "snake oil marketing" generates a lot of controversy, skepticism and animosity. I was almost eaten alive by some members when I mentioned that the degree of difficulty in cleaning hands and tools usually correlates with product durability....

The company has very good products, but also happens to have one of the slimiest marketing teams in the industry. But then, don't most of the companies advertise their products as the second coming? Difference is, some of these companies have already a following in the community, so there is a predisposition to see the claims as not exaggerate.

Got my hands on some Collinite 476 (thanks, Accumulator) and so far, I really like it.

Concerning the OCW you mentioned you like on your own car - is that the 17oz spray wax or am I not finding a thicker liquid online?

Looks pretty damn wet to me!

Damn Dirty Ape-yes OCW is a spray wax. Surprisingly durable and it looks terrific.

Off top of my head

Optimum Opti Seal great looks and durability so easy to use

Optimum Car Wax great carnauba type look decent durability once again easy to apply

FK 1000p great durability has been easy to use for me apply thin, wipe off takes just a little effort to remove good reflective looks

Detailers Pride poli coat easy to use good looks not sure on durability yet

Four Star UPP polycharge I held off using this and I don't know why a breeze to apply and remove great looks and super slick durability bein tested now

Autoglym HD takes a little effort to remove but I have 8 months with it from july till march looks great sheets water well

Bilt Hamber Autobalm a pain to apply but looks great especially on silver and lasts and lasts

Bilt Hamber Finis wax so easy to use great looks so far has been holding up since Jan has become my goto

This is hard for to apply a universal rating because I like a lot of my waxes in different situations! I have to break it down by durability waxes v. car / enjoyment waxes.

SUV / durability waxes:

845: 8.5/10 - If you only want one wax in your arsenal for a play car, daily driver, and SUV, this is what I recommend. Straddles the line of beauty waxes and durability. Trim-safe makes it easy to use quickly. Tight, round beading. Leaves a bright look.

476S: 9 / 10 - unparalleled durability and beading.

FK1000P: 8/10 - good beading, cheap, get a lifetime supply of it with one tin, leaves a great look on the paint. Unfortunately requires two coats for extended durability. High temp property separates itself into a niche.

Car / enjoyment waxes:

CG Pete's 53: 10/10 - yes, perfect 10. Fantastic beading. Great look. Nice to work with. Solid value - fits perfectly in-between entry-level waxes (under $20) and exotics (over $50), but can be thrown around in the same discussion as a wax at any price. I'd buy it again.

AG HD: 9/10 - fantastic durability among carnuaba-small-tub-type waxes, great beading and very fast sheeting. Probably the best value in this category possible at $20 from Walmart clearance, and also worth the $50 from online vendors. I'd buy it again - I have two tubs of it, and I spent the time to go to several Walmarts to check for more on clearance.

CG XXX Hardcore: 8/10 - great all-around tub wax. Fantastic value. Solid durability - plenty for taking care of a toy, probably not something I would spread all over a SUV (again).

S100: 7/10 - good ease of use and look, but durability and beading lacking. However, the way S100 spreads onto the paint makes this the perfect Saturday morning wax. If you're just throwing on another layer to enjoy your car, its hard to find a wax more pleasurable to work with.

Megs 26: 5.5/10 - I've grown away from using liquid waxes. Performs as well as some others, but doesn't give the enjoyment factor that I look for when detailing. Not trim safe = automatic 1 point deduction.

Buttery: 2/10 - durability issues.

I got my last one for $10 on the walmart clearance isle. Now I have 3 for a total of $45:becky:

Arrrggg! I bought two for $20 at my local walmart. They had three more boxes for about 6 months. Then I found out they put everything that was on clearance an additional 75% off, went back within a few days and they were all gone! Bummer, but I already have enough waxes that they should be part of my will anyhow.

Pinnacle Souveran PS (Even Zaino can't beat the look, Redo after every wash)

Zaino (looks good all the time -longest lasting- Want to try topping with PS.)

Klasse SG (Needs PS to top to be extra special. Pain to get off)

Zymol (Not as good as PS period. Still have half a jar. never touched since getting PS. Used 5 jars P.S.)

Wolfgangs (O.K. Not as fun to put on as PS.)

Swissol (Not much different to Zymol)

M26 Liquid - 7/10 (nice crisp look on light metallics, beads flat, )

Collinite 476 - 9.5 ( the King of pastes, water beads are super tiny & tight)

IW #845 - 8.5/10 ( great product, but have had water etching problems with it)

S100 - 7.5/10 ( fun to apply, easy paste, dies after a couple of washes though)

Optiseal- 7.5/10 ( another fun to apply product, bright appearance, great for refreshing, - wouldn't use it as my standalone protection, however.)

Ultima PGP 8.5/10 (a darker look than optiseal, more durable also)
